Description

Position: QHSE Manager

Location: Labman HQ, Stokesley, North Yorkshire

Salary: £59,000 - £65,000 (based on experience)

Employment Type: Full-Time (Monday - Friday 37.5hrs)

At Labman Automation, we design and build bespoke robotic systems that enable science through technology. Our work supports customers across the world, developing automation that makes advanced research faster, safer and more sustainable. We’re looking for an experienced QHSE Manager to lead Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental activities across Labman, with a strong focus on practical Health & Safety leadership. This isn’t a role where H&S is managed from behind a desk. You’ll be visible across our engineering, manufacturing and office environments, working alongside teams to understand how work is actually done, manage risk and find practical solutions that keep people safe without creating unnecessary barriers. Alongside H&S, you’ll lead our established Quality team, oversee the continual improvement of our Quality Management System and support Labman’s environmental and sustainability priorities. We’re looking for someone with strong technical knowledge who is approachable, practical and comfortable challenging where needed. Someone who can bring people with them and make QHSE part of how we work every day.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead Health & Safety across Labman, ensuring clear, practical and effective arrangements are in place.
  • Provide competent H&S advice and translate UK Health & Safety legislation into sensible working practices.
  • Ensure workplace risks are identified and effectively managed through risk assessments, inspections and practical controls.
  • Lead and support investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses, using root-cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
  • Work directly with engineering and operational teams on machinery, work equipment, contractors, hazardous substances and workplace activities.
  • Lead and develop our established Quality team and continually improve our Quality Management System.
  • Oversee quality standards including ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and ISO 27001, working with relevant teams to maintain and improve our systems.
  • Use audits, non-conformances, incidents and customer feedback to identify trends and deliver measurable improvements.
  • Support environmental and sustainability priorities, including ESG activities, reporting and environmental risk management.
  • Coach and support managers to build their own H&S knowledge, confidence and accountability.

What You’ll Need:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, or a higher-level relevant qualification.
  • Strong practical experience in a Health & Safety or QHSE role.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and how to apply it in practice.
  • Experience carrying out risk assessments, H&S inspections, audits and incident investigations.
  • Experience developing and improving H&S policies, procedures and workplace controls.
  • Experience leading and developing a team, setting priorities and supporting others to take ownership.
  • Experience maintaining and improving Quality Management Systems, including a sound working knowledge of ISO 9001.
  • Experience managing audits, non-conformances and corrective actions and making sure improvements actually work.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to influence, challenge and work effectively with people at all levels.

Desirables:

  • Experience within engineering, manufacturing, automation or machinery environments.
  • Internal or Lead Auditor qualification.
  • Experience with ISO 13485 and/or ISO 27001.
  • Experience with environmental compliance, sustainability, ESG or carbon reporting.
  • Experience delivering H&S training, toolbox talks or awareness sessions.

Company benefits:

  • 33 day's annual holiday (rising to 38 over 5 years) inc. public holidays
  • Private Healthcare with Aviva
  • 5% employer pension (no upper earnings cap)
  • Travel opportunities in various roles
  • Enhanced maternity Pay (long service applicable)
  • Enhanced Paternity leave
  • CPD support and annual subscription to appropriate body covered
  • Free inhouse gym, squash, bouldering wall, and countless clubs
