ERG is hiring a Quality Assurance/Safety Specialist to support explosives safety, occupational safety and health (OSH), and QA activities at the Naval Support Facility in Indian Head, MD. Day to day, the person conducts hazard analyses for energetics operations, assesses Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH), oversees explosives decontamination safety, and ensures compliance
ERG is seeking a Quality Assurance/Safety Specialist to support explosives safety, occupational safety and health (OSH), and quality assurance activities within explosives/energetics processing and decontamination environments. This position will support the safe execution of operations by conducting hazard analyses, evaluating material potentially presenting an explosive hazard (MPPEH), and ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards, regulations, and procedures.
This full-time position is at the Naval Support Facility (NSF) Indian Head. Indian Head, Maryland, is approximately 30 miles from Washington, D.C., 25 miles from Alexandria, Virginia, and 60 miles from Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Job Description:
- Conduct and oversee safety-related aspects of explosives/energetics decontamination in current or former explosives processing facilities
- Conduct hazard analyses for energetics operations
- Assess and document the explosives safety status of various forms of Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH)
- Maintain and apply extensive Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and Explosives Safety training beyond the required experience
- Ensure strict adherence to established safety protocols and applicable Occupational Safety and Health and explosives safety requirements
- Support safety and quality assurance activities associated with explosives and energetics operations
- Review operations and work activities to identify potential hazards and ensure appropriate controls are implemented
Qualifications and Skills:
- 10+ years of experience in explosives safety, including 5+ years as an explosives safety and OSH officer
- Demonstrated experience in ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols
- Training and experience in 29 CFR 1910 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry
- Training and experience in 29 CFR 1926 Safety and Health Regulations for Construction
- Certified in Gas Free Engineering
- Respirator fit testing qualification
- State-certified Asbestos supervisor certification
- DOT Explosive Handler physical certification
- Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH) Training per NAVSEA OP-5
- HAZWOPER (40-hour)
- Military Munitions Rule and Naval Explosives Safety (AMMO-49-DL or AMMO-18-DL)
- Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance
- Must be a U.S. citizen, as this position is not eligible for Limited Access Authorizations
