Position Overview

The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for performing data acquisition related to external beam radiation treatments and executing quality assurance (QA) procedures for machines and instrumentation in radiation oncology. This role supports patient safety and treatment accuracy by maintaining compliance with QA protocols, analyzing data, and communicating findings with the clinical physics team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform data acquisition for external beam treatments in radiation oncology
  • Conduct machine quality assurance tests to ensure proper functionality
  • Generate reports on machine and treatment-specific QA testing
  • Communicate QA results to physicists and the Director of Medical Physics
  • Collaborate with medical and operational staff to acquire evidence-based QA data
  • Support performance improvement initiatives using data-driven methods
  • Utilize statistical tools and process improvement methodologies
  • Ensure alignment with regulatory standards and best practices in care
  • Maintain organized documentation and QA records
  • Perform other job duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree in physics, nuclear engineering, medical physics, or closely related field
  • Preferred:
    • Master’s degree in one of the above disciplines
    • Successful completion of Part I of the ABR Certification Exam in therapeutic medical physics
  • Substitution Allowed:
    • Prior experience with LINAC operations and QA instrumentation for radiation oncology may substitute for formal education

Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of radiation oncology QA software and record/verify systems
  • Understanding of quality assurance and improvement practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong data analysis and technical reporting skills
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects independently
