Job Information

  • Job Title: Quality Control Inspector – Level 2
  • Department: Quality
  • Reports To: Quality Control Manager
  • Location: Anaheim, CA
  • Effective/Revision Date: October 30, 2026

Role Purpose

The Quality Control Inspector – Level 2 is responsible for independently performing detailed dimensional, visual, and final inspections of complex sheet metal assemblies, CNC machined components, structural weldments, and finished products throughout the manufacturing process. This intermediate-level position ensures product conformity to engineering drawings, customer specifications, and AS9100 quality management requirements through the application of precision measurement techniques and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

The role supports manufacturing quality by identifying and documenting nonconformances, maintaining accurate inspection records, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to prevent defective products from progressing through production or reaching customers.

Scope & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform assigned duties in accordance with documented procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, engineering specifications, and manufacturing routing sheets.
  • Independently conduct in-process, finishing, and final dimensional and visual inspections of complex sheet metal assemblies, CNC machined components, structural weldments, and finished products.
  • Perform final inspection and product acceptance activities to verify compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and established quality standards.
  • Set up and operate precision inspection equipment, including digital height gages, optical comparators, micrometers, calipers, thread micro-gages, and other dimensional measuring instruments.
  • Interpret automated Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) reports to evaluate dimensional conformity and make product acceptance or rejection decisions within established authority.
  • Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, manufacturing specifications, and GD&T requirements to verify dimensional accuracy and product conformity.
  • Inspect painted, plated, welded, and other finished surfaces for compliance with applicable cosmetic, dimensional, and customer acceptance criteria.
  • Verify welding and painting requirements against applicable customer specifications, including reviewing weld logs, paint certifications, and supporting special process documentation.
  • Create, update, and maintain accurate inspection data, measurement records, and quality documentation within the company's ERP and Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Compile and review preliminary inspection data packages, ensuring required inspection records, certifications, and supporting documentation are complete and accurate.
  • Independently identify and reject nonconforming products in accordance with established quality procedures and assigned inspection authority.
  • Initiate and document formal Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), including detailed descriptions of dimensional discrepancies, visual defects, and technical deviations.
  • Coordinate immediate containment and segregation of nonconforming materials to prevent unintended use, further processing, or shipment.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Quality personnel to communicate inspection findings, resolve technical discrepancies, and support corrective action activities.
  • Work directly with manufacturing personnel to identify recurring quality issues and support containment of potential quality escapes at the source.
  • Verify proper calibration status, handling, and maintenance of inspection equipment prior to use.
  • Support internal quality audits, continuous improvement initiatives, and compliance with applicable AS9100 requirements.
  • Maintain organized inspection records and ensure compliance with company quality procedures, safety standards, and customer requirements.

Work Experience & Skills

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Vocational training, technical certification, or coursework in manufacturing technology, quality inspection, machining, or a related technical discipline preferred.
    • Additional training in GD&T, dimensional metrology, or aerospace inspection practices preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 2–4 years of experience performing dimensional and visual inspections, preferably within an aerospace or precision manufacturing environment.
    • Experience inspecting sheet metal components, CNC machined parts, structural weldments, and complex mechanical assemblies.
    • Working knowledge of AS9100 quality management system requirements.
    • Experience with precision measurement equipment, including digital height gages, optical comparators, and other dimensional inspection instruments.
    • Experience interpreting CMM measurement reports and performing independent product acceptance inspections.
    • Experience documenting nonconformances and utilizing ERP or QMS systems.

Skills / Knowledge:

    • Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, manufacturing documentation, specifications, and inspection instructions.
    • Working proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), including the interpretation of dimensional tolerances and geometric controls.
    • Proficiency in using precision measuring equipment and applying appropriate dimensional inspection techniques.
    • Ability to interpret automated CMM reports and evaluate measurement results against specified tolerances.
    • Understanding of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and applicable special process requirements.
    • Familiarity with welding standards, including applicable AWS requirements, and paint/coating inspection criteria.
    • Knowledge of AS9100 quality management principles, product traceability, inspection documentation, and nonconforming material control.
    • Ability to independently identify, document, and communicate technical nonconformances.
    • Proficiency in maintaining inspection records and entering accurate data within ERP and QMS systems.
    • Effective communication skills when working with Production, Engineering, Quality, and customer representatives as appropriate.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
