Quality Engineer

Title: Quality Engineer
Reports To: Quality Manager
Status: Full-Time/Salary (40-50 hours/week; additional hours as needed to support department and individual goals).
Location: Thumb Plastics, Inc. Bad Axe, MI

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or minimum four years of manufacturing experience in the automotive industry
  • Excellent customer relations, communication, and team building skills
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • CMM Experience
Job Preferences:
  • Lean Manufacturing experience
  • 8D/Problem solving certification
  • Injection molding and/or plastic automotive industry experience
  • 4 years’ experience in quality assurance
Job Summary:
To assist with quality department submissions, problem tracking, and database management. Act as contact to both external and internal customers regarding quality issues.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Oversee all production personnel on assigned shift.
  2. Inform and instruct all production personnel of their individual duties.
  3. Discipline production personnel on assigned shift.
  4. Maintain a timely and continuous production flow to ensure production schedules are implemented and deadlines are met.
  5. Responsible for completing all new and existing employee evaluations and identifying training needs.
  6. Ensure that all operating, quality and safety procedures are followed.
  7. Complete all necessary paperwork, including absence reports, injury reports and all shift paperwork.
  8. Assist in line set-up, when necessary and ensure the machine is set-up per the master set-up sheets.
  9. Present relevant topics to shift employees as needed.
  10. Maintain daily production reports and review efficiency and scrap reports and track continuous improvements of the shift.
  11. Conduct frequent safety inspections of all work areas and operations in order to eliminate unsafe conditions.
  12. Ensure manufacturing conditions are typical of production for pilot runs.
  13. Material lot control, and traceability, non-conforming product procedures, measurement and checking gauges in order to effectively perform the functions of the job.
  14. General housekeeping.
  15. Follow all IATF-16949 / ISO 14001 policies and procedures.
  16. All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
