Quality Engineer Lead
QE Lead Role and Responsibilities
Role Purpose
A triad-level quality engineering leadership role
responsible for driving quality strategy, standards,
governance, and cross-squad quality outcomes, including
E2E initiatives that span multiple squads, domains, platforms and external teams.
Scope of the role
QE Lead Operates at the triad level, not only at a squad level. They are expected to support multiple squads
(Within or outside of the triad) and lead quality outcomes beyond an individual squad.
Key Responsibilities
- define and drive the quality strategy for the triad in
alignment with Digital quality goals
- establish and embed consistent standards for test
approach, automation, coverage, and release quality
across squads
- lead E2E test strategy, planning, coordination, and
execution for initiatives that span multiple squads,
domains, platforms, or external teams
- drive stronger collaboration between QEs and
developers to support shift-left testing and shared
ownership of quality
- ensure quality is considered early through better
testability, acceptance criteria, and design collaboration
- provide leadership on automation direction across web,
app, API etc.
- ensure accessibility testing and visual regression
approaches are appropriately considered for customer-
facing web and app experiences
- identify capability, tooling, standards, and process gaps
and define improvement actions
- coach and mentor Senior QEs and QEs across the triad
or multiple squads
- provide clear stakeholder communication on risks,
dependencies, coverage, and readiness
- work with delivery, engineering, product, and external
teams to coordinate cross-functional testing activity
- contribute to triad/stream-level quality governance and
continuous improvement
- manage dependencies, risks, and defect triage activities
- provide clear input into release readiness
Experience, Skills and Qualifications
- Significant relevant quality engineering experience,
including leadership across multiple squads, streams,
or product areas in a digital environment.
- Strong experience shaping quality strategy, automation
direction, and standards adoption across teams.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex E2E
initiatives that require cross-team coordination and
stakeholder management.
- Strong knowledge of web, app, API delivery quality
challenges, including accessibility testing and visual
regression for customer-facing experiences.
- Strong API testing knowledge and experience driving
adoption of API-first testing practices.
- Strong communication, influencing, facilitation, and
mentoring capability.
AI and Tooling Expectations
- Defines how approved AI tooling should be used within
the triad to improve quality engineering outcomes.
- Drives adoption of effective AI-assisted practices for test
design, automation acceleration, defect analysis, and
quality insight.
- Sets expectations for review, traceability, security, and
responsible use of AI-generated artefacts.
- Identifies triad-level opportunities to improve quality
engineering efficiency and consistency through AI-
enabled approaches.
