Job Overview:

The Quality Ops Tech is a mid-level role responsible for supporting and coordinating QA/QC inspection activities for offshore and onshore projects. The position is aligned to one primary inspection discipline—Welding, Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I), or Coating—based on candidate qualifications and operational requirements. This role requires a higher level of independence than entry-level positions, with responsibility for ensuring inspection readiness, maintaining quality compliance, and supporting execution of inspection activities in accordance with project specifications and international standards.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • QA/QC Coordination & Inspection Planning
    • Independently support planning and scheduling of inspection activities in line with project milestones and approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
    • Coordinate effectively with QA/QC, engineering, and operations teams to ensure inspection readiness, including procedures, drawings, and inspection tools
    • Maintain and monitor records of inspector certifications, qualifications, and approvals to ensure compliance
    • Ensure all inspection activities are carried out in accordance with project specifications, codes, and quality standards
    • Monitor inspection progress, proactively identify risks or delays, and escalate issues when required.
    • Provide regular updates and support reporting to senior QA/QC personnel on inspection status and quality metrics
  • Inspection Support (Single Discipline Based on Selection)
  • Welding Inspection
    • Support review and implementation of welding documentation (WPS, PQR, WPQ) in compliance with applicable codes (ASME, AWS)
    • Maintain weld traceability systems including weld maps, joint records, and consumable logs
    • Coordinate and monitor Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities and ensure timely submission and review of reports
    • Ensure proper control, storage, and traceability of welding consumables
    • Assist in identifying welding-related non-conformities and follow up on corrective actions
  • E&I Inspection
    • Support inspection and verification of electrical and instrumentation installations against project specifications
    • Maintain inspection and testing records such as loop checks, calibration certificates, and cable test reports
    • Ensure compliance of instruments and equipment calibration with project and regulatory requirements
    • Assist in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities ensuring proper documentation and inspection coverage
    • Support inspection of hazardous area installations (where applicable)
  • Coating Inspection
    • Support coating and painting inspection activities as per approved specifications and procedures
    • Assist in surface preparation verification (e.g., cleanliness, roughness, SA standards)
    • Maintain coating inspection records including DFT/WFT measurements and environmental monitoring logs
    • Assist in identifying coating defects and tracking corrective actions.
    • Ensure coating materials are handled, stored, and applied in compliance with manufacturer and project requirements
  • QA/QC Documentation Control (Inspection Related)
    • Maintain and verify inspection reports, quality records, and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
    • Ensure all inspection documentation is properly recorded, traceable, and aligned with project QA/QC requirements
    • Support compilation of quality dossiers and final handover documentation.
    • Track and follow up on inspection reports, punch items, and NCR closures with a higher level of accountability
  • Act as a focal point for relevant craft supervisors to access current information related to standards and codes, technical publications, inspection tools, and measuring instruments
  • Ensure all inspection forms are off a standard format and completed monthly
  • Maintain Quality records and relative Codes/Standards
  • Focal point between facility/vessel and Administrative Office regarding the status of Corrective Action Register Issues
  • Assist in establishing a process to measure non-conformances, i.e., production delays, unscheduled helicopter flights, redundant vessel movements, etc.
  • Assist as directed with ISO:9001, ISO: 14001, ISM, and ISPS code audit prep and CAR closures
  • Act as a focal point to help expedite facility issues relevant to Quality
  • Assist with facility/vessel Key Performance Indicator measurements
  • Maintain registers on the following: ladders, below hook lift devices, CAR, training, and MSDS

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or High School Diploma or equivalent (technical background preferred)
  • Minimum 3+ years of relevant experience in QA/QC inspection, coordination, or related field
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Well-organized, disciplined, and capable of handling multiple priorities
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate with cross-functional and operational teams
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and take ownership of assigned tasks
  • Technical Knowledge
  • Practical knowledge in any one of the following:
    • Welding inspection processes and QA/QC documentation
    • Electrical & Instrumentation inspection and testing
    • Coating/Painting inspection techniques and standards
  • Familiarity with international codes and QA/QC standards is an advantage
  • Certification Requirements (Mandatory – Any One Discipline)
  • Candidates must possess at least one relevant certification:
    • Welding
      • CSWIP 3.0 / 3.1 or equivalent
      • AWS CWI (advantage)
    • E&I
      • CompEx Certification (preferred) OR
      • Electrical/Instrumentation technical certification
    • Coating
      • BGAS Grade 2 OR
      • NACE CIP Level 1 / Level 2 OR
      • FROSIO Level I / II
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong computer skills
  • Organized and disciplined individual with well-developed communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to deal effectively with operational management throughout the organization
