Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on R&D Prototype Technician / Packaging Designer to join our team in Singapore. You will transform design ideas into physical prototypes and presentation-ready samples, collaborating with designers, engineers, and project teams to support product development and production readiness.
Responsibilities
- Translate packaging concepts and product innovation ideas into high-quality physical prototypes to support design validation and customer presentations
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot 3D printers and related prototyping equipment to ensure efficient prototype production
- Prepare and organise CAD files for 3D printing, model making, and fabrication to streamline prototyping workflows
- Modify and iterate CAD models based on prototype testing, design review comments, and project feedback to improve design accuracy
- Produce prototype iterations within agreed project timelines to meet development milestones
- Perform post-processing tasks such as sanding, painting, finishing, and artwork application to achieve presentation-ready standards
- Create simple hand-built mock-ups using paper, board, foam, plastics, or other materials to support design concepts
- Coordinate with external prototyping suppliers for overflow work or specialist fabrication to meet project demands
- Collaborate closely with industrial designers, packaging development engineers, and project managers throughout the product development cycle to ensure alignment
- Maintain prototype inventory, workshop tools, equipment, and materials in good working order to support continuous operations
- Recommend improvements to prototyping processes to enhance speed, quality, safety, and cost efficiency
Required competencies and certifications
- Experience operating and troubleshooting 3D printing technologies such as FDM, SLA, or equivalent
- Proficiency in CAD software such as Rhino, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360, including preparing files for 3D printing and basic model editing
- Basic familiarity with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for artwork preparation and visual adjustments
- Diploma in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Experience with laser cutters, digital fabrication equipment, label printing, or direct object printing
- Background in consumer products, beauty and cosmetics packaging, FMCG packaging, or medical devices
- Experience in industrial product development, rapid prototyping laboratories, or product innovation teams
- Skilled in producing premium product finishes, presentation models, or customer-facing samples
- Strong maker lab, workshop, model-making, or prototyping experience encouraged
