Job Summary

The R&D Shop Manager leads the daily operations of Mesa Power Solutions' development shop, supporting engine, genset, and distribution gear development through prototype fabrication, testing, machining, welding, and product validation activities. This role provides leadership and mentorship to engineering technician teams, manages shop resources and budgets, and partners closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, and Project Management to ensure successful product development and commercialization.

The ideal candidate combines strong leadership and technical expertise with experience in power generation systems, fabrication, testing, and New Product Introduction (NPI). This position serves as a key link between engineering design and physical execution, driving continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including EPA and UL requirements. Familiarity with DFMEA, HALT/HASS testing, prototype development, and First Article Inspection (FAI) methodologies is essential.

Essential Duties

• Lead and mentor a team of engineering technician teams, providing guidance and support to ensure project success and professional growth.
• Collaborate with management, project managers, logistics and other cross functional departments to help achieve the commercialization goals of Mesa.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions to enhance productivity and product reliability.
• Establish shop priorities and allocate personnel, equipment, and resources to meet project milestones and deadlines, proactively identifying and addressing any issues or risks.
• Support troubleshooting and resolving complex engineering challenges related to engines, generators and testing.
• Establish shop priorities and allocate personnel, equipment, and resources to meet project schedules and business objectives.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements while promoting a proactive safety culture.
• Oversee maintenance, calibration, and repair of machine tools, fabrication equipment, and shop infrastructure.
• Develop, implement and improve shop procedures, work instructions, and best practices that support rapid prototyping and product development activities.
• Manage procurement of materials, tooling, equipment, and external manufacturing services required to support development programs.
• Monitor shop budgets, capital expenditures, and operating expenses to ensure responsible use of company resources.
• Track project status, communicate risks, and provide regular updates to stakeholders regarding schedule, resource constraints, and technical challenges.
• Maintain accurate records related to equipment, maintenance, tooling inventories, certifications, and shop performance metrics.
• Lead implementation of new manufacturing technologies, equipment, and processes that enhance R&D capabilities.
