Ramp Driver
Job summary
The Ramp Agent Driver is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and on-time ground handling support through the operation of company vehicles and ground support equipment. This position performs aircraft loading and unloading activities, baggage and cargo transportation, aircraft servicing, and vehicle operations while ensuring compliance with company policies, airline procedures, airport regulations, and safety standards.
The Ramp Agent Driver plays a critical role in supporting aircraft turnarounds and maintaining a safe and efficient ramp operation while delivering exceptional service to airline customers.
Key responsibilities
- Operate company vehicles and ground support equipment, including tugs, belt loaders, baggage carts, vans, and other equipment, in a safe and efficient manner.
- Transport baggage, cargo, mail, and operational supplies between aircraft, terminals, and designated airport locations.
- Support aircraft turnaround operations to ensure on-time departures and arrivals while maintaining operational efficiency.
- Perform pre-operational inspections of assigned vehicles and equipment and promptly report defects, malfunctions, or maintenance requirements.
- Maintain a high level of situational awareness in a busy ramp environment, ensuring safe distances from aircraft, equipment, and personnel while identifying and avoiding potential hazards.
- Follow all company, airline, airport authority, and regulatory safety and security procedures at all times.
- Adhere to all airside driving regulations and maintain compliance with airport operating standards.
- Ensure compliance with applicable TSA requirements, airport authority regulations, and company policies and procedures.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of baggage, cargo, and mail as operational needs require.
- Communicate effectively with ramp agents, supervisors, dispatchers, and operations personnel through radio and other communication systems to support efficient operations.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and participate in Foreign Object Debris (FOD) prevention and housekeeping activities.
- Respond appropriately to irregular operations, delays, and emergency situations while maintaining safety and service standards.
- Support other operational departments and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualification
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain airport security clearance and airside driving privileges.
- Previous experience in aviation, ground handling, commercial driving, or vehicle operation is preferred.
- Ability to safely operate motorized ground support equipment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and operational excellence.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Physical requirement
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 70 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and elevated noise environments.
- Ability to safely work around aircraft, moving vehicles, fuels, lubricants, and mechanical equipment.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must be capable of maintaining focus and situational awareness in a dynamic airport environment.
