Range Operations Assistant

About the Position: Works under general supervision of the Range Scheduler or Range Operations Specialist. Performs day-to-day work independently according to established guidelines. Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 6 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.

Maintain and utilize a working knowledge of established range regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, and manuals.

Assist in coordinating and scheduling activities and fixed range/training area schedules to avoid conflicts in training.

Issue detailed instructions to training units and coordinates the safe entry and exit of support personnel into active danger areas.

Ensure that direction of fire, safety data, and time sequences are correct and strictly adhered to.

Maintain records of all weapons fired on the assigned range(s) and number of personnel trained throughout the training complex.

Ensure all safety requirements are known and enforced.

Report to supervisor all major problems or requests for deviation from prescribed safety practices.

Contact the required safety team members to investigate weapon/ammunition related malfunctions on ranges or firing points.

Review and distribute a schedule of areas released for hunting fishing and other recreational use to the Fort Stewart DMWR outdoor recreation branch.

Advise units conducting training on all matters pertaining to safety.

Enforce airspace restrictions and limitations by providing advisories to MARNE Radio flight.

Serve as incident commander until arrival of fire department personnel or appropriate agency.
