Salary: $110,000 – $120,000 per year
If you want to own the apps you build, not just pick up tickets for them, keep reading.
At Little Hinges, we are transforming the property market by turning physical spaces into actionable digital intelligence. Our mobile apps sit at the front of that: they are how property managers, assessors, surveyors, agents and our own team capture homes, and every scan feeds the data pipelines, image recognition and valuation models behind our platform. Our goal is to digitise millions of Australian homes, and the apps are where that starts.
We are a fast-paced scale-up that prioritises momentum and capability over hierarchy and lengthy process. We are looking for a React Native engineer who wants to be the owner of our mobile apps: the person who knows them inside out, shapes where they go next, and ships it.
This is a hands-on building role. No people management, no team lead duties, just ownership, autonomy and a seat at the table on direction.
What you’ll do
Own multiple React Native apps end to end: architecture, roadmap input, releases and ongoing quality.
Build imagery-first capture experiences that work across a wide range of devices, using LiDAR and on-device sensors to enhance the data where available.
Work directly with our Senior Engineer and Head of R&D on high-level product and technical direction, then turn it into scoped, shippable work.
Work with external partners and internal stakeholders to prioritise app work, align on what matters most, and keep delivery moving.
Collaborate with our data, platform and QA teammates so what the apps capture flows cleanly into the backend, pipelines and AI models.
Scope your own work: understand the commercial “why”, identify edge cases, write the tickets, execute.
Use AI coding tools to move fast on prototypes and features, while verifying what they produce.
Contribute across the broader stack (APIs, web, internal tools) when the apps need it.
Who you are
A genuine self-starter. You don’t wait to be told what’s next; you spot it, rally the right people around it and get moving.
A product thinker. You care how the app feels in a user’s hand in the field, not just whether the code compiles.
Comfortable in ambiguity. When requirements aren’t fully defined, you ask the right questions, fill in the blanks and make smart trade-offs.
Organised and communicative. There is a lot of freedom and trust here, which only works with clear documentation and regular alignment.
Happiest building. You want ownership and influence, not a management track.
Experience required
Strong commercial experience with React Native and TypeScript, including apps shipped to the App Store.
Working knowledge of native iOS and Android tooling (Xcode, native modules) and comfort debugging below the JS layer (Again, Apple experience is a must, Android is nice to have)
Experience with device camera, sensor or media capture features, and managing performance on lower-spec devices.
General full-stack experience: consuming and shaping REST APIs, Node.js, and enough backend to be self-sufficient.
Mobile release management: build pipelines, OTA updates, versioning and crash monitoring.
Clean Git practice: structured changes for review, comfortable rebasing and resolving conflicts.
Experience scoping your own work from commercial problems into technical plans.
Nice to have
Experience with ARKit, LiDAR, computer vision or 3D capture.
Web experience
Exposure to AI/ML features on mobile, or feeding data into recognition models.
Expo / EAS, React/Next.js, NestJS, AWS.
Observability tooling (Sentry, Datadog, PostHog or similar).
Android Apps and Google Play submission experience
Previous startup or scale-up experience.
