Summary

Intermediate React Software Engineer at Syspro responsible for building user-facing components using React and TypeScript. The role involves end-to-end feature ownership, mentoring junior developers, and integrating with REST APIs in a hybrid work environment.

As a Software Engineer (Intermediate, React) at Syspro, you will own the design, build, and delivery of user-facing components and features using React and modern front-end technologies, contributing meaningfully to front-end architecture and design decisions. You will navigate ambiguity and complexity with minimal oversight, mentor junior engineers, and help drive engineering quality, performance, and usability within your team.
This is a hands-on engineering role with growing expectations for technical ownership, sound design judgement, and peer mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain components and features using React, TypeScript, and modern front-end technologies.
  • Own components and features end-to-end: analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Build reusable React components, implementing routing, state management, and component composition using functional components and hooks.
  • Translate product requirements and UX designs into production-quality solutions, working closely with UX/UI to implement designs accurately.
  • Integrate front-end applications with REST APIs and back-end services, handling asynchronous JavaScript and JSON data.
  • Contribute to front-end architecture discussions, bringing sound technical judgement to component design and state-management decisions.
  • Apply SOLID and component-design principles (composition, reusability, separation of concerns) to the features you build.
  • Debug and resolve issues in unfamiliar or complex parts of the front-end codebase.
  • Apply distributed-systems thinking (resilience, scalability, cost optimisation) to the front-end services and integrations you own.
  • Consider SaaS delivery factors, such as scalability and multi-tenancy, when building components and features.
  • Promote sound test strategy and help the team improve automated test coverage (unit, component, integration).
  • Optimise front-end performance (load time, rendering, bundle size) and follow recognised accessibility (WCAG) practices.
  • Apply secure front-end development practices and follow Syspro’s secure coding standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers on code quality and clarity through reviews and pairing.
  • Customise Azure DevOps boards, automate workflows, and manage build and release pipelines.
  • Resolve merge conflicts and rebasing issues, and keep CI/CD pipeline configuration up to date.
  • Contribute to modernising legacy user interfaces into modern, componentised React experiences, under senior engineering guidance.
  • Collaborate with Product, UX/UI, Architecture, Quality, and back-end engineering teams to deliver outcomes.
  • Clarify requirements, edge cases, and trade-offs with Product and other stakeholders, and help prioritise features based on business impact.
  • Lead technical discussions within the team and handle disagreements constructively.
  • Coach teammates on Agile best practice and facilitate syncs with other teams.
  • Own delivery of features that span team boundaries, seeing them through from design to production.
  • Navigate ambiguous requirements and make sound trade-off decisions with minimal oversight.
  • Support technical decisions in planning sessions.
  • Drive retrospectives and continuous improvement, and help decompose epics into deliverable, well-scoped work.
  • Support peers’ growth by helping them plan their own development.
  • Identify and drive improvements in how the team works together.
  • Surface technical risks, dependencies, and impediments early.

  • Solid experience integrating front-end applications with REST APIs and back-end services, including asynchronous JavaScript and JSON data handling
  • Practical experience with modern front-end build and package-management tooling (e.g., npm, Vite, or Webpack), and Git-based source control
  • Practical experience working in an agile delivery environment and using Azure DevOps (or equivalent)
Beneficial Experience
  • Experience in enterprise software, ERP, SaaS, or complex multi-team product environments
  • Familiarity with back-end technologies (e.g., C#/.NET) and API design, to support effective collaboration with back-end engineering teams
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest, React Testing Library) and browser-based end-to-end testing (Playwright, Cypress, or similar)
