Summary

Syspro is hiring a Senior React Software Engineer in South Africa to build and own scalable, secure enterprise web applications using React, TypeScript, and REST API integrations. The role involves driving front-end architecture, upholding coding and testing standards, and mentoring other engineers, with delivery managed through Azure DevOps and Git.

As a Senior Software Engineer (React) at Syspro, you will design, build, and take ownership of high-quality, scalable, and user-focused web applications and components using React and modern front-end technologies. You will drive front-end architecture and engineering standards, solve complex technical problems, and support the growth of less experienced engineers, working closely with Product, UX/UI, Quality Engineering, Architecture, and back-end teams to deliver secure, performant, and accessible enterprise software experiences.
This is a hands-on engineering role with clear expectations for technical leadership, system design input, and team enablement.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality, scalable, and maintainable web applications and components using React, TypeScript, and modern front-end technologies.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of complex work: analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment readiness, and operational support.
  • Build reusable, modular React components and front-end libraries using functional components, hooks, component composition, and appropriate state-management approaches.
  • Translate product requirements and UX designs into robust, production-quality solutions, working closely with UX/UI to implement designs accurately and consistently.
  • Integrate front-end applications with REST APIs and back-end services, including asynchronous JavaScript, JSON data handling, and client-side routing.
  • Contribute to the evolution of front-end architecture, frameworks, and engineering standards, including component design, state management, routing, and client-side data management.
  • Lead design reviews and architecture discussions across teams, and guide others in applying strong design principles (e.g., component composition, reusability, separation of concerns).
  • Set and uphold front-end coding standards and engineering practices within the team.
  • Promote reuse and consistency through shared components, design systems, and common engineering patterns; identify and address technical debt while balancing delivery priorities with long-term maintainability.
  • Help define and reinforce a strong testing culture, including unit, component, integration, and end-to-end automated tests.
  • Investigate defects to identify root causes rather than only symptoms, and raise the quality bar through reviews, coaching, and pragmatic improvements to the Definition of Done.
  • Optimise front-end performance (load time, rendering, bundle size) using techniques such as code splitting, lazy loading, caching, and memoisation.
  • Build responsive applications that provide a consistent experience across supported browsers, devices, and screen sizes, developed in line with recognised accessibility (WCAG) standards.
  • Apply secure front-end development practices, understand common web application vulnerabilities, and ensure secure handling of authentication, tokens, application state, and sensitive information.
  • Use Azure DevOps effectively for delivery transparency and discipline (work items, code reviews, pipelines, traceability), and work confidently with Git-based source control, including branching, pull requests, and merge strategies.
  • Contribute to healthy repository structure and CI/CD practices; help the team improve deployment and release readiness over time.
  • Factor SaaS delivery considerations (multi-tenancy, scalability, operability) into front-end architecture and design decisions.
  • Contribute to modernising legacy user interfaces and workflows into modern, componentised React experiences, working with backend teams where legacy systems are involved.
  • Collaborate with Product, UX/UI, Architecture, Quality, and back-end engineering teams to deliver secure, performant, and intuitive enterprise software experiences.
  • Influence product and roadmap direction through strong technical input and clear articulation of trade-offs.
  • Shape solution requirements and contribute to product design discussions with a customer-value mindset.
  • Coach and mentor engineers across the team, supporting juniors with practical guidance and feedback.
  • Drive team-wide improvements (ways of working, quality practices, technical patterns, shared standards).
  • Surface technical risks, dependencies, and impediments early and manage them effectively.
  • Lead by example in delivery quality, engineering discipline, and technical initiatives.
  • Provide transparent delivery execution and reporting through disciplined use of Azure DevOps.

Requirements

  • Solid experience integrating front-end applications with REST APIs and back-end services, including asynchronous JavaScript, JSON data handling, and client-side routing
  • Practical experience with modern front-end build and package-management tooling (e.g., npm, Vite, or Webpack), Git-based source control, and browser developer tools for debugging
  • Practical experience working in an agile delivery environment and using Azure DevOps (or equivalent), with the ability to mentor others in good usage
Beneficial Experience
  • Experience in enterprise software, ERP, SaaS, or complex multi-team product environments
  • Familiarity with back-end technologies (e.g., C#/.NET) and API design, to support effective collaboration with back-end engineering teams

  • Coaching orientation: actively develops others and raises the team standard
  • Customer and product focus: understands how front-end engineering decisions affect usability, performance, and the value delivered to end users
