Recreation Fee Technician

First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level. Salary Range:GS-05: $40,736 (Step 1) to $52,957 (Step 10) per year - Salary Table 2026-RUS

Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds. Assist higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g. cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.). Assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings. Communicate audit results to supervisor. Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others. Review shift reports and count funds collected; Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors. Inventory and/or restock fee program supplies and assist with placing orders and preparing requisition requests for equipment/supplies as needed. Carrying out a wide variety of clerical and technical assignments that involve the application of fee program knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices of fee collection.

Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home occasionally. You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. This position is subject to drug testing due to assisting during emergency operations and medical emergencies on passenger ferry boat. This position must be certified in Standard First Aid (or higher) and AED within 6 months of entrance on duty. Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
