Recreation Specialist - School Collabs/Sensory Room
The Recreation Specialist is responsible for the development, management, and implementation of seasonal programs and events for individuals with disabilities of all ages and ability levels. This position will oversee WSSRA’s School Collaborative Programing and Imaginarium Sensory Room. This position reports directly to the Program Manager.
ESSENTAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Develop, organize, and supervise a variety of recreation programs, special events and overnight trips for individuals with disabilities of all ages.
- Complete program-related paperwork including lesson plans, program evaluations, staff evaluations and participant assessments.
- Manage all aspects of WSSRA’s school collaborative programs, ensuring a positive experience for participants.
- Oversee WSSRA’s Imaginarium Sensory Room.
- Assist with program recruitment and represent WSSRA at community and partner events.
- Prepare and monitor program budgets effectively.
- Supervise participants during programs and assist with activities of daily living as needed.
- Develop behavior plans and visual aids to support participant needs.
- Supervise, train, mentor and evaluate seasonal part-time staff and volunteers.
- Actively support WSSRA’s risk management program by enforcing safety policies and reporting incidents and accidents to the agency risk management representative.
- Assist in the creation of new programs and develop brochure planning for assigned areas.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Establish relationships within our school districts and outside organizations.
- Drive agency vehicles to transport participants to and from programs.
- Drive to and from programs locations and transport program equipment.
- Attend agency meetings, as well as for state and local organizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
