Recycling Factory Technician (Correctional)

Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities.

Supervises daily over sight and assists with plans for many of the long-range operations of the recycling operation within the guidelines of the provisions and requirements of the U.S. Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), and UNICOR. Makes decisions affecting a workload which is subject to frequent changes. Inmates disassemble materials into component parts for sorting, collection, and possible further formatting. Production schedule, flow and labor usage will be redirected to meet current sales needs, requiring interaction among work groups to move components to the appropriate sale prepping locations. Redirects resources to ensure operations meet the changing schedule. Prepares reports regarding the Recycling Factory, factory purchasing, inmate work assignments, management and internal control reports and budget estimates. Maintains recycling and disassembly expertise and awareness of market developments to recommend changing incoming product or donators, and out-flowing materials and buyers. Ensures safe working conditions and compliance with safety regulations and provides effective safety training to inmates. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
