This position serves as a Reference Librarian located in the Geography and Map Division, Special Collections Directorate, Researcher and Collections Services within the Library Collections Services Group at the Library of Congress. As the Reference Librarian, you will: Provide reference and instruction to individual researchers and groups where needs are relatively easy to determine from client interviews in person or over the telephone, or from written requests, and the bibliographic source materials are of limited technical complexity and are readily-accessible, i.e., found in the Library's collection or can be located within a database by use of standard search procedures. Respond to requests for information concerning research in specific areas related to cartography, history of cartography and map librarianship. Plan and design projects pertaining to information management (such as preparing catalogs, carto bibliographies, or printed or online inventories and online research guides) to determine holdings and make collections data more accessible. Participate in outreach efforts, such as responding to comments and queries in electronic forums where Library collections are presented. Maintain personal contacts and cooperative work relationships to provide or exchange information. Participate in the selection of new materials for the collection. Perform other duties as assigned. This position requires access and use of high value and top tier collections to perform the work of the position. The position description number for this position is 447446. The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area. The incumbent of this position will work a Flexitime work schedule. This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position. Relocation expenses will not be authorized for the person(s) selected under this vacancy announcement.
