Regional Commercial Manager

Our London South region is expanding — and we’re looking for a commercial leader to help shape what comes next.

We’re looking for a Regional Commercial Manager to join Careys at an exciting time for our expanding London South region. If you’re a commercially astute construction leader who wants to influence a regional portfolio, develop people and play a meaningful part in business growth, this is an opportunity to bring those ambitions together.

The opportunity

This is a role with influence beyond an individual project. Working closely with the Regional Director, operational teams and the wider commercial function, you’ll lead commercial performance across the region — connecting sound financial management with practical decisions that support successful project delivery.

From early tender discussions and contract negotiations through to delivery and final accounts, you’ll help set the commercial direction, identify opportunities and manage risk. Just as importantly, you’ll develop the commercial capability the region needs as it grows, giving colleagues clear direction and helping the next generation of commercial professionals progress.

• Lead regional commercial performance: Take ownership of profitability, cost control, cash flow and forecasting across multiple projects, turning financial insight into timely action.
• Shape projects from the outset: Contribute to work-winning, tender reviews, pricing strategies and contract negotiations, helping establish strong commercial foundations before work begins.
• Bring clarity to complex contracts: Oversee contractual obligations, variations, compensation events, claims and final accounts, protecting Careys’ commercial interests while working constructively with project partners.
• Build trusted relationships: Work alongside clients, consultants, subcontractors and operational colleagues to resolve issues and achieve successful commercial outcomes.
• Develop people, not just processes: Coach and mentor the regional commercial team, supporting progression from apprentices and assistant quantity surveyors through to emerging commercial leaders.
• Help the region work smarter: Strengthen commercial controls, reporting and procurement practices, share lessons learned and champion improvements that make a practical difference.

You’ll have significant commercial management experience in construction, ideally within civil engineering, infrastructure or specialist contracting, and a track record of managing commercial performance across multiple projects.

You’ll combine strong financial judgement with a practical understanding of NEC and/or JCT contracts, bringing experience in forecasting, cost value reconciliation, procurement, contractual risk and final account settlement. You’ll be confident negotiating, explaining complex commercial matters clearly and working with operational leaders to make informed decisions.

We’re also looking for someone who takes genuine satisfaction in developing others: a collaborative leader who sets clear expectations, takes ownership and creates opportunities for people to progress. A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline — or substantial equivalent industry experience — will underpin your expertise.
