The Role
We are seeking an experienced Regional Director, Business Development to lead our overseas market expansion, with a primary focus on developing and growing business in China. Based in Singapore and reporting to the Managing Director / Group CEO, this individual will be responsible for building relationships with shippers, freight partners, and trade networks in China, driving new revenue streams, and establishing RICHWELL as a trusted freight forwarding partner in the region.
This is a senior, high-impact leadership role suited to a proven business development professional with deep experience in the freight forwarding or logistics industry, native or near-native fluency in Mandarin, and an established network within the China market.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and execute the overall business development strategy for overseas markets, with a primary focus on China, to drive sustainable revenue growth.
• Identify, engage, and secure new business opportunities with shippers, importers/exporters, trading companies, and freight partners operating in or trading with China.
• Build and maintain strong, senior-level relationships with key clients, agents, and strategic partners across the China market and broader region.
• Lead market research and competitive analysis to identify growth opportunities, emerging trade lanes, and evolving customer needs within the freight forwarding industry.
• Represent RICHWELL at trade shows, industry events, and client meetings in China and other overseas markets, acting as a key brand ambassador.
• Collaborate closely with operations, pricing, and customer service teams to ensure seamless onboarding and service delivery for new accounts.
• Negotiate commercial terms, contracts, and service agreements with new and existing clients and partners.
• Build, mentor, and eventually lead a regional business development team as the China market presence scales.
• Prepare regular reports, forecasts, and pipeline updates for senior management, tracking progress against revenue and growth targets.
• Monitor regulatory, trade policy, and industry developments affecting cross-border freight movements to/from China and advise the business accordingly.
Requirements
• Minimum 10 years of business development, sales, or commercial leadership experience, with substantial exposure to the freight forwarding, logistics, or supply chain industry.
• Proven track record of successfully growing business in the China market, including an established network of contacts among shippers, agents, and trade partners.
• Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin (spoken and written), together with strong business proficiency in English, as this role requires day-to-day negotiation and relationship management with China-based clients and partners.
• Deep working knowledge of China's trade environment, business culture, and regulatory landscape relevant to cross-border logistics.
• Demonstrated success in new business acquisition, key account management, and revenue growth in a B2B commercial environment.
• Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and executive presence, with the ability to represent the company at senior levels.
• Willingness and ability to travel frequently to China and other overseas markets as required.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, International Trade, Logistics, or a related field; an MBA or equivalent is an advantage.
• Prior experience building or scaling an overseas market from the ground up is highly advantageous.
What We Offer
• A senior leadership role with significant ownership over RICHWELL's overseas growth strategy.
• Competitive base salary with performance-linked incentives tied to business development targets.
• The opportunity to shape and lead a growing regional team.
• A collaborative, entrepreneurial culture within an established freight forwarding company.
