This position is accountable for operational readiness across every Wolverine location, including residential campuses, program sites, and administrative offices.

The Director translates organizational priorities into practical procedures, preventive maintenance, reliable service delivery, and measurable accountability. Working closely with program leadership, the Chief Administrator, Clinical Services, Human Resources, and Finance, the Director ensures that buildings, meals, transportation, equipment, and supplies support the needs and dignity of the young people and families Wolverine serves.

Essential Responsibilities

Organization Wide Operations

  • Develop and implement consistent operating procedures, service standards, and accountability systems across all locations while addressing each site’s needs.

  • Maintain an annual operations plan with site priorities, responsible staff, completion dates, resource needs, and progress reports to the CEO.

  • Conduct routine site rounds with program leaders; identify service gaps, resolve concerns, and verify that corrective actions are completed.

  • Coordinate operational planning for program openings, relocations, expansions, and closures, including equipment, vendors, utilities, and site readiness.

Facilities and Preventive Maintenance

  • Oversee building maintenance, grounds, housekeeping, laundry, utilities, and repair services; maintain safe, clean, accessible, and functional environments.

  • Maintain a preventive maintenance calendar and work order system with priorities, response expectations, repair documentation, and completion verification.

  • Monitor building systems, including heating and cooling, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, doors, windows, and security hardware; promptly address unsafe conditions.

  • Develop capital repair and replacement recommendations, obtain estimates, and oversee approved projects and contractor performance.

Essential Responsibilities Continued

Food Service and Nutrition Support

  • Oversee kitchen operations, meal preparation, food purchasing, inventory, sanitation, storage, and equipment maintenance across locations.

  • Ensure meals meet approved menus, portion expectations, and documented dietary restrictions; coordinate with medical and clinical staff on individual needs.

  • Monitor food quality, quantity, temperature records, expiration dates, sanitation practices, and required staff training; address concerns promptly.

  • Establish clear procedures for meal counts, point-of-service documentation when applicable, special meals, and purchasing to support accurate records and avoid duplicate entry.

Transportation and Fleet

  • Manage vehicle readiness, inspections, preventive maintenance, registration, repairs, fuel controls, and vehicle assignment records.

  • Coordinate transportation resources with program leaders for appointments, school, visits, activities, and other approved needs.

  • Verify driver authorization and required documentation in partnership with Human Resources; establish vehicle checkout, key control, accident reporting, and emergency response procedures.

Safety Security and Business Continuity

  • Maintain operational controls for keys, radios, access systems, cameras, and other safety equipment, including sign-out, inventory, inspection, and repair procedures.

  • Coordinate with technology staff and vendors to maintain camera and security system functionality, service escalation, outage documentation, and recovery procedures; support authorized access and retention requirements.

  • Coordinate emergency supplies, evacuation readiness, severe weather preparations, utility outage response, and continuity plans with site leadership.

  • Escalate urgent hazards immediately, implement interim safeguards, and track resolution; support incident reviews and root cause analysis involving operational conditions.

Compliance and Corrective Action

  • Maintain inspection schedules and records supporting applicable licensing, contract, health, food service, fire, building, and workplace safety requirements.

  • Participate in audits and inspections with the Chief Administrator and designated compliance leaders; provide accurate documentation and timely operational follow-through.

  • Develop and implement assigned corrective actions with clear owners, deadlines, staff instruction, and evidence that improvements are sustained.

  • Immediately report suspected abuse, neglect, safety concerns, and other reportable matters through required channels and organizational procedures.

Budget Purchasing and Vendors

  • Develop and monitor operations budgets with Finance; review spending, explain variances, and recommend responsible cost controls.

  • Manage purchasing, inventory, asset tracking, and supply distribution; maintain adequate stock and controls against waste, loss, and unauthorized use.

  • Evaluate vendors, obtain competitive pricing as appropriate, and monitor service agreements, renewals, insurance documentation, and work quality within delegated authority.

Leadership and Accountability

  • Recruit, orient, supervise, coach, and evaluate assigned staff with Human Resources; establish clear expectations, equitable scheduling, backup coverage, and professional conduct.

  • Ensure staff receive required training, demonstrate job competencies, and understand procedures before performing assigned duties independently.

  • Build a respectful, responsive service culture; address concerns without retaliation and coordinate personnel investigations with Human Resources.

  • Partner with residential and clinical leaders so operational decisions support trauma-responsive care, youth dignity, cultural responsiveness, and consistent daily programming.

The Director oversees operational support services. Clinical decisions, treatment planning, youth supervision, and designated Chief Administrator duties remain with the leaders assigned those responsibilities. The Director coordinates closely with those leaders and escalates unresolved risks to the CEO.
