Registered Nurse- Medical/Surgical 6E (Inpatient)

This Registered Nurse position is located in Nursing, Acute Care 6 East at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, located in West Haven, CT. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week.

Nursing is recruiting for one Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse (RN). The RN is responsible for the daily clinical and administrative management of their assigned patients. This includes supervision of support nursing staff, effective management of resources and applying evidence-based practice principles to validate and/or improve their practice. The RN implements, and monitors actions plans to assure performance measures are met to improve organization performance. The Registered Nurse possesses basic knowledge and skills to apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting which will then enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning and/or support of the dying patient and significant others. In an entry level position, the nurse is committed to continued professional development. Role responsibilities and accountabilities also include demonstration of knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of patients served in the assigned area of practice. This knowledge includes understanding changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population.Duties include, but are not limited to: Documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition Collaborating with healthcare team members and other interdisciplinary teams to facilitate positive patient care outcomes, Providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems. Accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade. Demonstrates organizational skills which enable completion of work in a timely manner with demonstrated ability to assume a leadership role in a patient centered program. Ability to provide leadership in the application of the nursing process to client care, organizational processes and/or systems, improving outcomes at the unit level. Maintain fiscally responsible actions. The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.
