Registered Nurse OR Circulating

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Assess patients prior to surgery (e.g. NPO status).
• Provide education and reassurance to patients and caregivers prior to surgery.
• Gather all supplies needed for the surgical procedure.
• Assume responsibility for maintaining a sterile field.
• Ensure proper positioning and preparation of the patient on the operating table.
• Adherent to safety standards and precautions set forth by AORN (accrediting body)
• Assuming duties within or out of the sterile field as assigned within the sterile field.
• Assist the surgical team with setting up rooms.
• Assess safety and functionality of equipment prior to procedures.
• Actively participate in Time Out.
• Assisting the OR team throughout the case as needed.

Job Requirements:

• A valid NYS Nursing License.
• Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
• Excellent knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
• Solid understanding of patient safety and precautions.
• In-depth knowledge of surgical operation procedures.
• Outstanding organizational ability.
• Be a team player with excellent communication skills.
• Even-tempered with emotional and physical stamina.

• At least one year of OR experience is preferred.
• Preferred experience with high-acuity orthopedic procedures.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Successful completion of ACLS course within 90 days (about 3 months) of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification.
• Successful completion of PALS course within 90 days (about 3 months) of employment or documentation of current PALS certification.
