Regulatory Compliance Officer

Serves as the point of contact for a specific area of expertise. Provides knowledge and experience of subject matters. Assists with ensuring day to day operations, policies, procedures, and guidelines are followed in particular areas.

Develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive institutional compliance program. Develops compliance policies, procedures, standards, and internal controls. Creates and maintains the University compliance matrix of state, local, and federal regulatory requirements. Performs compliance related assessments, investigative fieldwork, and other duties such as determining the presence of internal controls and reliance on organizational structure. Establishes effective working relationships and build credibility with faculty, staff and students to promote a culture of ethics and compliance.

Facilitates quarterly Compliance Council meetings to support compliance readiness with various University areas at the division, department or unit level. Collaborate with operational leaders, internal and external stakeholders to support compliance objectives and to ensure that compliance matters are promptly handled or forwarded for follow up or response. Monitor changes in federal, state, and local laws, regulations, statutes, and guidance affecting higher education.

Researches and develops recommendations on how most effectively to address compliance-related issues of University-wide applicability in high-risk compliance areas such as sponsored research, financial aid, intercollegiate athletics, data privacy and security, and records retention, among others.

Collects and analyzes data and develops metrics to measure the effectiveness of the compliance and ethics program and initiatives undertaken on behalf of the institution.

Works with University areas to ensure education and training materials on timely compliance topics are designed, developed and conducted, increasing compliance knowledge and adherence among staff at all levels.

Works closely with policy owners in the process of updating University policies and procedures, as assigned. Within this area of responsibility, the Compliance Officer will help maintain a centralized repository of official University policies and procedures. The Compliance Officer is not the owner of the policies and procedures retained in the centralized repository.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in relevant area and two years of appropriate experience. Higher education compliance work experience is strongly desired.
