Rehabilitation Aide (Full-Time)

Assists physical therapy staff by preparing equipment, aiding patients with mobility and daily tasks, and maintaining a clean, safe treatment environment.

The Rehabilitation Aide provides supportive and ancillary services to the professional staff of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Rehabilitation Aide at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Prepares and cleans whirlpools and attends to patients while in the whirlpool.
- Assists patients in donning and doffing prosthetic or orthotic devices.
- Assists patients in dressing and undressing in preparation for treatment.
- Assists the therapist in setting up patients on all therapeutic equipment.
- Maintains linen and other supplies at all times at the disposal of the professional staff.
- Prepares hot and cold packs for use by the therapists.
- Adjusts non-modality equipment for patient use.
- Assists therapists in gait training of patients and is able to provide support to patients while ambulating, safely lower patients to the floor in case of a total loss of balance.
- Performs daily whirlpool scheduling and completes the daily assignment sheet.
- Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing, and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
- Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- Lifts a minimum of 50lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 100 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse patient population. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office platforms.
- Minimum of 1 year patient care experience.
- BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
- Regular contact with HMH personnel, vendors, and/or visitors.
