Remote | Senior Software Engineer — $100–$150/hour
Summary
Part-time remote contractor role creating reproducible reinforcement-learning environments that test AI systems on realistic software-engineering workflows like debugging, DevOps/CI/CD, refactoring, and performance optimisation. Requires strong skills in C++, Python, Java, Go, TypeScript, or Rust plus tools like Git, Docker, and GDB; ~15 hours/week at $100-$150/hour.
We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Senior Software Engineers with strong expertise in Python, Java, Rust, C++, Go, TypeScript, algorithms, debugging, codebase development, DevOps, CI/CD, and performance optimisation to contribute to an advanced AI training and reinforcement-learning environment project.
Selected professionals will create reproducible software-engineering environments that test advanced AI systems on realistic debugging, DevOps, CI/CD, command-line, and development workflows. Each environment will require deterministic validation and a golden reference solution. No prior experience in AI is required.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Environment & Workflow Development
- Design reproducible software-engineering tasks reflecting realistic development, DevOps, and CI/CD workflows
- Create scenarios involving build, test, deployment, automation, debugging, and command-line operations
- Develop feature-implementation and codebase-refactoring tasks across relevant programming languages
- Define clear objectives, constraints, expected behaviour, and acceptance criteria
- Incorporate tools such as Git, Docker, GDB, AddressSanitizer, FFmpeg, and comparable utilities
Debugging, Performance & Software Quality
- Design and solve complex debugging and troubleshooting scenarios
- Identify root causes and develop maintainable technical fixes
- Analyse algorithms, data structures, latency, throughput, scalability, and resource utilisation
- Evaluate architectural and implementation trade-offs
- Ensure performance improvements and refactoring preserve intended behaviour
Validation & Reference Solutions
- Create golden reference solutions for each environment
- Develop deterministic validation methods and objective success criteria
- Ensure evaluators distinguish correct, incomplete, and incorrect solutions reliably
- Maintain reproducibility across repeated executions
- Document technical reasoning, validation logic, and implementation decisions clearly
Ideal Profile
- Strong professional software-engineering experience
- Proficiency in one or more of C++, Python, Java, Go, TypeScript, or Rust
- Deep understanding of algorithms and data structures
- Strong debugging, performance-tuning, feature-development, and refactoring skills
- Experience with DevOps and CI/CD workflows
- Familiarity with Git, Docker, GDB, AddressSanitizer, or comparable command-line tools
- Experience building maintainable and scalable software systems
- Large-scale or distributed-codebase experience is highly valuable
- Strong code-review and software-engineering best-practice knowledge
- Excellent technical communication and attention to detail
- Familiarity with AI or machine-learning systems is advantageous but not required
- No prior AI-training experience is required
Engagement Details
- Part-time independent contractor engagement
- Fully remote and open globally
- Expected commitment: approximately 15 hours per week
- Displayed compensation range: $100–$150/hour
- Actual compensation structure is output-based, with payment made per task that meets project specifications
- Task completion time may vary depending on experience and workflow
- Minimum weekly submission requirements apply; the source does not specify the exact number of required tasks
- Work will involve reinforcement-learning environment creation, DevOps and CI/CD workflows, debugging, command-line tools, feature development, refactoring, performance optimisation, deterministic validation, and golden reference solutions
- Screening may include an approximately 30-minute AI interview and technical assessment
- Roles are typically filled within approximately 48 hours, with initial tasks expected within approximately 24–48 hours after onboarding
- Project scope, workload, technical environments, and evaluation standards may evolve depending on project requirements
- Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
