Remote Ubuntu Security Engineer — Open Source Defender

JobCubby is sourcing an Ubuntu Security Engineer based in Italy to join a globally distributed security team. You will investigate vulnerabilities, fix issues, and develop security tooling for open source software.

The role blends security engineering with software development, code auditing, and collaboration with engineers and the broader open source community. Candidates across experience levels are encouraged to apply.

Analyse, investigate, fix, and test vulnerabilities in Ubuntu ecosystem packages. Monitor and track vulnerabilities using internal security tools and processes. Collaborate with internal teams, upstream developers, and the open source community on security patches. Strong understanding of common software security vulnerabilities and attack techniques. Familiarity with coordinated vulnerability disclosure practices and responsible security communication. Experience with open source development tools, workflows, and methodologies. Proficiency in programming languages such as C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
