JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Rental Sales Representative

Reports to: Rental Sales Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Division: HPC

Department: Rental

Locations: Kailua-Kona

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Rental Sales Manager, the Rental Sales Representative is responsible for selling and renting new and used Caterpillar and Allied products. The Rental Sales Representative establishes new customer relationships and provides support to existing customers to secure rentals and equipment sales. The Rental Sales Representative prepares rental and sales proposals, completes contracts, and coordinates equipment preparation. The Rental Sales Representative is actively involved in the marketing of product lines in territory.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Attracts potential customers by studying competition, building relationships, obtaining referrals, organizing special marketing events, identifying needs, and explaining products and options.
  2. Assists customers in selection and application of equipment by pointing out product advantages, demonstrating proper use of equipment, representing the company’s interests, and updating the customer database in Sales Link.
  3. Ensures all business transactions are conducted in accordance with company policies.
  4. Prepares professional sales and rental presentations and quotations for customers.
  5. Completes sales and purchasing agreements by writing specifications and price changes, following up on loan applications and required paperwork and ensuring customers are invoiced and payments are received.
  6. Prepares rental agreement, insurance form, invoicing, and all required documents to complete the transaction and collects payment when customer is a “cash” customer.
  7. Provides quality customer service by upholding the company’s vision and standards.
  8. Follows up on adjustments and corrections and coordinates information and requirements with support staff.
  9. Maintains professional knowledge by attending training classes, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies.
  10. Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends by using full knowledge and utilization of Sales Link.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in marketing or business is preferred.
  3. Must have a valid Drivers License with a good driving record.
  4. Must have PC skills.
  5. Must have the ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
  6. Must have 2 years’ experience in rental material handling, heavy equipment sales, and capital goods retail sales and service.
  7. Must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  8. Must have a positive attitude and be a self-starter.
  9. Must have the ability and willingness to travel.
  10. Logistical experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Walking: Moves about on foot, often through uneven terrain or up and down stairs.
  2. Handling: Seizes, helps, or works with hands.
  3. Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts, small tools, batteries, tampers, and other small equipment.
  4. Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
  5. Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
  6. Standing: Remains in standing position if required to perform various functions of the job.
  7. Climbing: In and out of equipment.
  8. Vision: Reads spec sheets, invoices, and parts books and service manuals.
  9. Talking: Communicates by phone and in person.
  10. Sitting: Sits at desk for extended periods.

ENVIRONMENTAL:

  1. Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
  2. Temp/Weather: Works in an office and outdoor environment with variations of temperature and weather.
  3. Exposure: Subject to foul odors, fumes, and harsh substances.
