Reporting to

Purpose
We seek to hire a Research Analyst to support our ongoing work on enhancing
the access to sustainable cooling to the Indian population, with a primary
focus on supporting India’s transition to low-GWP and cleaner refrigerants in
accordance with the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. In addition to
the technology transition to phase down high GWP hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), the
existing stock of refrigerant gases needs to be effectively managed (through lifecycle
refrigerant management practices) to avoid their emissions.
The candidate will be responsible for conducting research on appropriate
policy mechanism, technology and capacity building needs, supply chain and
market challenges, lifecycle impacts of alternative refrigerants, and business
models to inform policy making on refrigerant transition and refrigerant
management, and support its effective implementation. He/she would support the
team in conducting quantitative and qualitative research, including data
analysis, survey design, stakeholder interviews and engagement, creating
knowledge products, and outreach. The ideal candidate should possess an
educational background in environmental
sciences/ engineering in relevant disciplines or public policy, or should have preliminary
understanding/ prior work experience in the refrigerants and cooling sector. In
addition to the duties and responsibilities outlined here, the individual
should be prepared to take on additional responsibilities as necessary.
Job duties and accountabilities
Primary responsibilities - Research and
analysis
- · Conduct rigorous research to support
the development and operationalisation of a lifecycle refrigerant management
plan in India.
- · Assess and provide inputs for
improvement of existing policy mechanisms and regulatory frameworks being used
globally for refrigerant management.
- · Research and support design of business
models and incentive mechanisms to constitute an effective refrigerant
recycling/destruction system
- · Identify market and supply chain challenges
in technology transition, and capacity needs for streamlining refrigerant
transition in India.
- · Research on lifecycle impact
assessment of alternative refrigerants.
- · Develop, lead and leverage
stakeholder participatory research to engage with the target research subjects
to refine project objectives, research scope, and build capacity.
- · Support in developing and conduct
primary surveys and questionnaires, and to collect, collate and analyse
responses using different statistical and econometric approaches.
- · Develop research outputs in various
forms such as publications, journal papers, reports, op-eds, and articles.
- · Conduct data mining, data analysis,
and literature review to support the research team.
- · Collaborate with the team to
identify key research gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- · Ensure adherence to project
timelines and deliverables.
- · Stay updated on emerging trends and
developments in the refrigerants and cooling space.
Other Responsibilities
- · Support the team and build
individual capacity in strategic communications through regular blogs and
op-eds.
- · Respond to research requests from senior
researchers, discuss research needs, and prepare responses that synthesize and
analyze information.
- · Assist with program implementation,
including help with preparing presentations.
- · Assist with planning and executing
events such as report launches, consultation workshops, roundtable discussions,
etc.
- · Participate constructively in weekly
team meetings.
- · Provide inputs on research
methodology and data analysis tools.
Selection Criteria
Qualifications
· Bachelors or Preferably Masters in
Science/ Engineering/ Environmental Sciences/ Public Policy or relevant
disciplines
Work Experience
· 0-3 years.
· Prior working experience or
familiarity with the refrigerants and cooling sector will be preferable.
