Research & Development Engineer

Job Purpose

The Research & Development Engineer will support the CTIO in researching, developing, and applying innovative ideas across AI, engineering, and construction. The role bridges research and practical implementation, with involvement in new methods, digital tools, data-driven solutions, and collaboration with specialised subcontractors, solution providers, and universities. Fresh graduates with strong interest, relevant academic exposure, and the right attitude are welcome to apply.

Key Responsibilities

· Support the CTIO in researching emerging technologies, especially AI, machine learning, digitalisation, automation, predictive analytics, sensing, monitoring, and digital twin applications relevant to infrastructure, engineering, and construction.

· Study and evaluate innovative engineering, construction, inspection, repair, and maintenance methods that can improve productivity, safety, quality, and asset performance.

· Identify practical use cases and help translate research concepts into field-ready engineering solutions and pilot applications.

· Work with project and operations teams to understand technical challenges and propose innovative, practical, and cost-conscious solutions.

· Assist in data collection, technical analysis, testing, proof-of-concept development, benchmarking, and feasibility studies.

· Support planning and execution of trials, demonstrations, pilot projects, and technology validation exercises.

· Collaborate with specialised subcontractors, technology vendors, consultants, and academic or research institutions on joint studies, solution development, and applied research initiatives.

· Coordinate with universities and research partners on innovation projects, capability development, and technical knowledge exchange.

· Prepare technical reports, presentation materials, concept notes, research summaries, and management updates.

· Keep track of relevant industry trends, grants, conferences, publications, and collaboration opportunities related to AI, engineering innovation, and construction technology.

Requirements

· Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Engineering, Data/Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.

· Fresh graduates are welcome to apply. Candidates with prior experience in engineering, construction, R&D, innovation, digital engineering, or related technical fields will have an advantage.

· Strong interest in AI applications, innovation, digital engineering, data-driven solutions, and improved construction or maintenance methodologies.

· Good understanding of engineering fundamentals and willingness to learn how research can be translated into practical project applications.

· Exposure to programming, data analytics, BIM, digital twin, IoT, monitoring systems, or software tools will be an advantage.

· Good communication, coordination, analytical, and report-writing skills.

· Able to work across multidisciplinary teams and collaborate professionally with external parties, including subcontractors, specialists, and universities.
