Research Engineer | Fusionopolis
Description of role
Seeking a hands-on experimentalist with a background in physics or engineering to support research in quantum imaging using induced coherence. You will work closely with senior researchers to design and build optical setups for imaging experiments.
This is a lab-based role suited to someone who enjoys practical problem-solving, precision alignment, and working with lasers and optics. You do not need to be a specialist in quantum optics — training will be provided — but some prior experience with experimental setups, optics, or electronics will be advantageous.
Key responsibilities:
- Working with lasers, mirrors, lenses, and optical mounts
- Assembling and aligning free-space optical systems, such as interferometers or optical cavities
- Contributing to experimental design and data collection
Desirable skills (not all required):
- Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience
- Experience with lab work or hands-on technical projects
- Familiarity with optics, lasers, or photonics (e.g., from coursework or projects)
- Understanding of optical modelling (e.g., ray-transfer matrices)
- Programming or data analysis skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW)
- Ability to read circuit schematics or use basic electronic tools like oscilloscopes
Contract Duration: 1 Oct 2026 onwards (1 year contract, with an option to extend)
Working Arrangement:
- Monday to Thursday : 8:30 am to 6:00 pm
- Friday : 8:30 am to 5:30 pm
Salary: $4500 basic + completion bonus
