Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for one highly motivated Research Assistant/Associate/Fellow to support projects in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. A/Prof Chan Shiao-Yng’s (obgchan@nus.edu.sg) team conducts research in understanding the impact of maternal and environmental factors on placental and offspring development, and their implications for the developmental origins of health and disease (DOHaD). The research encompasses mother-offspring cohorts (eg. GUSTO, S-PRESTO), clinical studies, and randomised controlled trials (eg. NiPPeR, AMulet) to advance knowledge of the underlying mechanisms of health and disease across the life course.

The appointment will be for 1 year in the first instance, with the possibility of extension to 3 years depending on progress and available funding.

Purpose of the post

The successful candidate will help to design and conduct studies, analyse data, write papers and grants/reports, and present findings at meetings.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate should be able to:

(1) employ biostatistical, epidemiological and bioinformatic methods to analyse data from mother-offspring cohorts and randomised controlled trials, and related projects

(2) assist in writing original research articles/reviews, writing grants/reports, preparing presentation materials and disseminate findings

(3) provide administrative support to research projects, such as organising meetings, maintaining regular communication with other members of the research team, supervising more junior team members, and collaborate with other external study sites

(4) collaborate with team members in the day-to-day running of projects, including assisting with sample/data collection (whenever relevant/necessary)

(5) maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures;

(6) assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor/Masters/PhD degree in a relevant field (eg. Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Population Health, Biomedical Science or a related discipline)
  2. Experience using statistical and analytical software such as R, Python, STATA or equivalent platforms
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with demonstrated experience in scientific writing and manuscript preparation
  4. Interest in endocrinology and maternal-child health
  5. Previous experience with omics data analysis, molecular biology and physiology will be advantageous
  6. Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently and meet project deadlines
  7. Able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative mindset, critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and good leadership ability

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
