Research Fellow (Geomechanics)

Summary

Research Fellow models hydro-thermal fractures/faults using lab experiments and numerical simulations, then publishes findings in top journals.

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Nanyang Technological University is a leading school for Sustainable Built Environment. It has over 60 faculty members and more than 1,500 students and is rapidly expanding its range of education and research activities. We are looking for a Research Fellow to conduct 1) modeling of hydro-thermal induced fractures and/or faults; 2) mapping of these fractures and/or faults from acoustic and/or strain measurements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and set up experimental systems for novel fracturing and faulting modeling

  • Conduct advanced numerical modeling and inversion studies

  • Publish high-impact research articles in leading international journals

  • Assist in the preparation and development of competitive research proposals

  • Support the supervision and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students

Job Requirements:

  • PhD’s degree in rock mechanics or related field

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in fracture/fault modeling

  • Familiarity with related literature and software

  • Good written and oral communication skills
