Job Description

We are currently accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to research in integrated photonics, heterogeneous photonic integration, and high-speed electro-optic devices. The successful candidate will develop high-performance photonic devices based on lithium niobate, silicon photonics, and heterogeneous material platforms, with emphasis on electro-optic modulators, low-loss photonic components, and scalable integration technologies.
The candidate will participate in the design, fabrication, integration, and characterization of lithium niobate and LN-on-Si photonic devices, and explore advanced integration approaches such as micro-transfer printing for back-end-of-line compatible photonic integration for next-generation optical interconnects and electronic-photonic systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop high-performance integrated photonic and electro-optic devices based on lithium niobate, silicon photonics, and heterogeneous platforms.
• Develop fabrication and heterogeneous integration processes for lithium niobate and silicon photonic devices, including micro-/nanofabrication and micro-transfer printing.
• Conduct optical, electro-optic, and high-speed characterization, including transmission spectra, propagation loss, modulation efficiency, electro-optic bandwidth, S-parameters, and high-speed modulation measurements.
• Perform photonic device simulation and optimization using tools such as Lumerical FDTD, or equivalent simulation platforms.
• Analyze device physics and process–performance relationships, collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams, and publish research results in high-impact journals and leading international conferences.

Qualifications

• PhD degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Strong research background in integrated photonics, electro-optic devices.
• Hands-on experience with micro-/nanofabrication in cleanroom environments.
• Experience with optical, electro-optic, and high-speed device characterization.
• Proficiency in photonic simulation and design tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.

We offer competitive compensation based on qualifications and experience, along with access to state-of-the-art facilities within a stimulating research environment. This is a full-time position initially offered on a 12-month contract, subject to renewal based on performance evaluation and funding availability.
