Job Description
The successful candidate will work with Associate Professor Brandon I Morinaka on the production, characterization, and bioactivity of cyclic peptide natural products under a project on biosynthesis and applications for cyclophane-containing peptides.
The main responsibilities of the position include:
• Heterologous expression of peptide natural products in E. coli.
• Isolation and characterization of peptide natural products.
• Biological evaluation of peptide natural products in antimicrobial assays.
• Biochemical characterization of novel enzymes involved in peptide natural product biosynthesis.
Qualifications / Discipline:
PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline.
Skills:
• Experience in heterologous expression of natural product pathways both for obtaining end products and biochemical characterization of enzymes.
• Extensive knowledge in analytical chemistry (LC-MS and NMR).
• Able to characterize complex natural products.
• Able to biochemically characterize new enzymes.
Experience:
Should have several years of experience working in a natural product chemistry or biosynthesis lab.
