Research Technician

Summary

Field technician assists with aquatic ecology research, collecting and cataloging fish and habitat data in the Cape Fear River using seining, dip-netting, and GIS tools.

JOB SUMMARY:

The research technician will assist with field data collection on a project studying American Shad migrations and passage success on the Cape Fear River NC The research technician will work with agency and university collaborators in the field to collect tag and acoustically monitor adult American Shad during the spring upriver spawning migration March April Following this the research technician will assist with a larval fish pilot study from May June Goals of the pilot study will be to determine the best gears locations and times to collect larval American Shad across the Cape Fear River Other duties as assigned

JOB DUTIES:

10% - Assist with managing GIS database and recording information, and other duties as assigned.

70% - Assist in field sampling by digging crayfish burrows, seining and dip netting to collect aquatic organisms and use of additional sampling methods appropriate for crayfish habits. Record habitat data including hydrology, substrate, water quality parameters, vegetation types, and other ecological parameters.

10% - Map and navigate to historical and contemporary sites.

10% - Assist with identifying, preserving, and cataloging specimens in the lab.

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in a related field and work experience directly related to the assigned research area; or a high school diploma and advanced journey-level work experience in a clinical or research setting.

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL:

Normal Operations - Required to follow emergency facility closure and modified operations directives, and not normally expected to work on-site during emergency situations.
