Overview
Resident Physicians and Senior Resident Physicians are experienced doctors with a recognized postgraduate qualification and who have completed the 3-year basic postgraduate specialist training. They are expected to undertake considerable responsibilities in addition to those of Medical and House Officers.
Job Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the following:
Responsible for the overall supervision and day-to-day running of the wards, including patient care. Demonstrate good diagnostic and clinical management acumen.
Responsible for the supervision and teaching of House Officers, Medical Officers, and Trainees.
Review all cold referrals that are not specifically referred to a Consultant by name.
Attend to urgent referrals while on night duty.
Inform the Consultant-on-call of all difficult and complex cases admitted to the ward or referred for an opinion.
Conduct ward rounds at night and outside office hours when on call and during admitting nights.
In emergency situations and outside office hours, oversee the preparation, review, and signing of consultation referral letters.
Responsible for the compilation of Confidential Mortality Reports for submission to the Chairman Medical Board through the Head of Department.
Represent the ward or hospital at Coroner’s Inquests or medico-legal hearings involving patients under his/her care, where required.
Attend and actively participate in all departmental ward rounds, hospital teaching seminars, clinico-pathological conferences, and other educational activities.
In surgical disciplines, perform elective and emergency surgical procedures up to the level of complexity permitted by the department’s senior staff.
Teach Medical Officers basic operative procedures and provide guidance when necessary.
Maintain specialty-specific knowledge and demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or Chairman Medical Board.
May be required to perform the duties of the next lower grade when necessary.
Job Requirements
Education, Training and Experience
Medical staff who completed basic specialist training and have a recognized postgraduate qualification.
Professional License
Must be registered with the Singapore Medical Council, and completed 1 year of housemanship and 3 years medical officer posting
