Job Posting: Residential Support Specialist (Multiple positions available)

Seasonal: December 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027S

Seasonal Full-time, Part-time, Per diem FLSA Non-Exempt

Purpose

The Wallingford Emergency Shelter’s guiding principle is to save lives during the harshest winter months of the year by providing compassionate care for the most vulnerable residents of Middlesex and New Haven areas. This position will supervise homeless adult clients in a congregate shelter setting.

Duties and Responsibilities

Attend all required Columbus House training and meetings. Complete all required charting, logs, incident reports; oversee intake, departures, and daily roster; Supervise clients to ensure compliance with all shelter rules. Perform light laundry duties. Assist in ensuring security of the shelter building. Adhere closely to scheduled shift start times and remain on duty until replacement has arrived. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Individual must have demonstrated the ability to manage, motivate and direct clients; time management and organizational skills essential; knowledge base of all aspects of the delivery of residential services for the homeless population preferred; must be aware of mental health, substance abuse, and dual diagnosis issues; knowledgeable of the area network providers; computer literate; culturally competent; must possess the capacity to work within a team and foster teamwork; must have a general understanding of crisis intervention skills, confidentiality, boundaries, universal precautions; able to foster a Harm Reduction philosophy within the work environment; strong empathic skills. Reliability and punctuality are essential. Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus. Valid drivers’ license with a good driving history.

Salary: $19 per hour, no benefits

Openings: 8

Shifts Available:

Friday- Saturday, 4:00pm- 12:00am (2 positions)

Sunday – Sunday, 4:00 pm to 12:00 am (2 positions)

Sunday- Thursday, 12:00 am to 8:00 am

Friday - Saturday, 12:00 am to 8:00 am

Per diem- as needed (2 positions)
