Respiratory Care Practitioner - Clinic - Sleep Medicine - FT 1.0 (80 hrs Bi-weekly) (70720)

Summary

Provides respiratory care and sleep medicine treatments, assesses patient needs, operates diagnostic equipment, and educates patients in a clinical setting.

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for professional patient care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. This position directs and guides patient education. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

Job Functions:

  1. Assesses patient need for respiratory therapy by interviewing patients, performing limited physical examinations, reviewing and evaluating existing clinical data and developing a respiratory plan of care with recommendations for the appropriate type and frequency of treatment, including goals.
  2. Initiates, conducts, and evaluates efficacy of therapeutic procedures/interventions and recommends changes to the respiratory plan of care for goal achievement and successful outcomes.
  3. Performs cardiopulmonary diagnostic and/or neurodiagnostic procedures, calculates test results, determines reliability, performs quality control, evaluates implication of test results and makes clinical and critical decisions accordingly.
  4. Responsible for the operation verification procedures, cleaning/disinfection, calibration, set-up, maintenance, troubleshooting and transportation of respiratory care, cardiopulmonary diagnostic and neurodiagnostic equipment.
  5. Educates patients and family on medications, equipment, disease management, and therapy adherence.
  6. Identifies patient care problems and communicates them to the provider by observing patients. Documents patient intake including vital statistics, verification of allergies, past history, updated medication list, and review of system findings as stated by patient or delegate. Performs assigned procedures and treatments as ordered and within scope of practice with appropriate, timely documentation.
  7. Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of care by authenticating all entries in the medical records and maintains office records and logs as directed by the supervisor.
  8. Submits prescriptions under the provider’s direction and ensures that all prescriptions that are called, written or sent electronically to the pharmacy are documented in the patient medical record at the time of execution after an appropriate physician order is given.
  9. Maintains compliance in RQI.
  10. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
