The Respiratory Therapy Resident is an adjunct to the respiratory therapy staff and works to orient to Hackensack Meridian Health policies and practices while being provided the environment to cultivate skills and knowledge to pass certification exams required for RT licensure. The Respiratory Therapy Resident is not to provide direct patient care. Respiratory Therapy Residents will learn best practices through observation of patient care by the precepting respiratory therapy department. This position is intended to be a temporary introductory position that allows the Team Member tocomplete the requirements to become a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Team members who do not timely achieve a Registered Respiratory Therapist credential and valid New Jersey Respiratory Care license within 6 months of hire into this position will be subject to termination of their employment, but will be eligible for rehire into other positions for which they are qualified. Team members cannot, however, reapply for this position.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Respiratory Therapy Resident at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Assemble, test, and troubleshoot various respiratory therapy equipment.
- Observe and participate in multidisciplinary rounds.
- Attend didactic learning seminars to enhance knowledge and patient care.
- Learns and demonstrates proficiency through practice driven competencies.
- Maintains infection control standards throughout the department and in satellite locations.
- Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 15 lbs. and stands a minimum of 10 hours a day.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:- Diploma/degree in respiratory care or other relevant area of study that has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
- Minimum of 2 or more years of experience in a CoARC accredited respiratory therapy education program.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office platforms.
- Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
- BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- Regular contact with HMH personnel, vendors, and/or visitors.
