Retail Interpreter

Summary
Daily customer service, cash handling, and museum operations including tours and retail support in a Cherokee cultural institution.
Provide superior customer service to all museum guests. Ensure cleanliness of building, sweeps, dust, and restocks bathroom products as necessary. Maintain and restocks merchandise if site has retail. Serve as interpretive guide for museum.
- Presents demonstrations, speak to the public, and conduct tours. Public speaking skills are necessary.
- Supports the tourism department as needed: sales, scheduling, reporting, follow-up phone calls, filing.
- Opens and closes the museum.
- Keeps the museum staffed at all times during opening hours.
- Maintains and balances cash drawer daily and makes deposits if site has retail.
- Manages multiple projects without having direct supervisory responsibilities.
- Work requires moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25lbs and standing and/or walking for more than 4 hours a day.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree and one (1) year of previous cash handling and/or customer service experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge and interest in Cherokee history and culture.
- Ability to be self-motivated, well organized, and willing to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instruction and have effective communication skills.
- Ability to effectively organize and creatively present materials to visitors.
- Must become CIG certified; training will be provided.
- Must have taken or enrolled in the Cherokee Nation History course.
