About the position

The Climate Services for Agriculture unit is seeking a Lead for the development of SERVIR Global Collaborative Food Security platform, with a focus on shaping early product direction in collaboration with regional and global partners. As the platform evolves, priorities and focus areas may adapt over time.


Main responsibilities

  • Develop detailed product plans to monitor and track progress across platform activities for SERVIR.
  • Analyze the technical feasibility of platform development and the underlying components.
  • Identify and initiate changes to scope, schedule, and costs using appropriate methods and verification techniques
  • Identify required skill, knowledge and expertise and organize development team for optimal and efficient implementation
  • Design and develop measurable product performance metrics using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Lead and contribute to the development of GEO-AI platform strategies and modules
  • In collaboration with relevant stakeholders, design the platform scope, objectives, and priorities including the identification of user groups, use cases, and success metrics.
  • Coordinate across regional and global teams during the development of the platform modules using relevant and appropriate expertise, to address both global and regional needs.
  • Within the SERVIR network, identify alignment of internal teams and external partners for effective execution
  • Lead and build collaborative relationships with stakeholders across institutions
  • Deliver regular and adhoc reports and escalate any emerging issues to leadership as needed
  • Coordinate the development of the SERVIR Global Collaborative Food Security Platform delivering the underlying components in a timely manner, within scope and within budget.
  • Successive Platform documentation conforming to acceptable agreed upon standards
  • Regular detailed progress reports to SERVIR hub lead and active participation in global development team meetings

Education and Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field, preferably related to geospsatial technologies and software development
  • PMP, ScrumMaster, or similar certification highly desired
  • Proven passion for applying science to support a more sustainable world
  • 5–7 years of experience managing the development of complex digital products or platforms
  • Experience working with distributed or cross-institutional teams
  • Experience working with environmental, geospatial, or climate-focused organizations
  • Demonstrated experience with scientific decision-support tools, geospatial data and technologies, and web mapping products
  • Prior experience in Agile, user-centred design, AI/GEOAI and open-source collaboration
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Advanced reporting skills

Terms of employment

This is a nationally recruited position based at Nairobi, Kenya. The initial contract will be for one year subject to a probation period of three months and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources. This position is graded at BG08 level, with a minimum basic salary of KES 307,706 a scale of BG01 to BG14 (BG14 being the highest level according to the Alliance job classification framework policy).
