RGXC Grooming Supervisor

This position is located at Royal Gorge Cross Country (RGXC), Sugar Bowl's Nordic ski resort. RGXC is located 10 minutes west of Sugar Bowl in Soda Springs, CA. With over 100 miles of Cross-Country ski trails, RGXC is the premier Nordic ski destination in the Tahoe region.

Royal Gorge Cross Country, Sugar Bowl’s Nordic ski area, is seeking a collaborative, experienced and detail oriented Nordic Grooming Supervisor for the upcoming winter season! You will be the person running the nightly grooming operation for our Cross-country trails: setting the grooming schedule, training and coaching staff, and ensuring our product is the best in the region. Working closely with the RGXC General Manager, you will be responsible for developing and executing the nightly grooming plan based on conditions, weather, and expected demand. This is a hands-on role that is expected to operate alongside our grooming team regularly and ensure our nightly goals are met. You’ll also regularly inspect the cats and work closely with Vehicle Maintenance to guarantee they’re operating properly and leaving the best possible surface - setting the standard for what a great day of skiing at Royal Gorge feels like, one groomed trail at a time.

Who You Are:

· 5+ years of full-time XC grooming experience on modern grooming machinery with tillers

· Thorough understanding of XC/Nordic grooming equipment and techniques

· Able to perform each essential duty of this role successfully and safely

· Possession of a valid Class C Driver License, with a driving record meeting the minimum standards required by Sugar Bowl Corp’s insurance carrier

· Prior experience in a management or lead capacity

· Comfortable working exposed to outside mountain weather conditions and in proximity to moving mechanical parts

· A Cross-Country skier who understands what an impeccable snow surface is and how important that is to our operation

· Willingness to seek out and accept feedback related to track surface quality

· Able to work a flexible schedule and adapt to changing operational needs

What You’ll do:

· Provide excellent customer service to customers, employees and business partners

· Be a working manager: this role is expected to spend 70%+ time in a grooming machine, training or monitoring staff or grooming trails.

· Coach, mentor, critique and teach operators safe and effective grooming practices

· Train operators on how to document trail and snow conditions using Nordic Pulse App

· Maintain proper staffing levels to meet business objectives and labor budget goals

· Perform inspection of equipment before and after operation of grooming machinery

· Assist with grooming machinery maintenance including checking fluid levels, condition of machinery and other areas in order to maintain grooming machinery in a safe and proper working order

· Assist with race and event grooming plans and execution

· Ensure a daily grooming report is produced at the end of each shift

· Document and report condition of grooming machinery to Management

· Follow up with all operators at the end of their shifts to make sure their Nordic Pulse logs have synced. Send an update to the MOD on any pertinent information from the shift

· Have extensive working knowledge of Royal Gorge’s entire trail system

· Know clear-weather and snow weather specific grooming patterns as well as where and how to set classic skiing specific tracks

· Report hazards, down trees, detours and necessity for tree or brush removal to Management

· Operate grooming machinery and perform job duties and responsibilities in extreme weather conditions during the late evening and early morning hours of the day

· Assist with snow removal including shoveling and clearing snow from walkways, paths and other areas as necessary

Physical Requirements:

· Comfortable sitting for extended periods while operating a snowcat, with frequent climbing on and off the machine

· Capable of working outdoors in extreme, cold winter weather conditions, often during late evening and early morning hours

· Able to shovel and clear snow, including heavy, wet snow, as needed

· Comfortable working in proximity to moving mechanical parts and heavy machinery

· Manual dexterity for equipment inspection, basic maintenance checks, and machinery operation

· Sufficient visual and auditory acuity to safely operate machinery and monitor changing weather and trail conditions
