The Risk Analyst at Stella-Jones is responsible for supporting the placement of enterprise-wide insurance policies, the reporting and oversight of delegated claims, and the overall risk management functions of the organization. This individual contributor role requires discretion and collaboration given the wide range of people and teams it interacts with across the company. It's a role suited for someone who enjoys problem-solving, is intellectually curious, and is growth oriented.
This position is hybrid, requiring three days per week in our Lenexa office once initial training and team integration are complete. The role also involves some travel, up to about 10%, including trips to Stella-Jones locations across the US and Canada.
Responsibilities:
Collects and analyzes both financial and operational data to inform decision-making around better underwriting results, loss expectations, and risk controls.
Collaborates with the Corporate Insurance Manager and Director of Risk Management in the Risk Management Information System (RMIS) workflow design and administration to streamline risk management processes in underwriting data collection and review, insurance certificate management, and claims reporting.
Owns the analysis and internal reporting of insurance premium cost allocation, claims expenses, and the overall total cost of risk (TCOR).
Performs claims oversight duties under the direction of the Corporate Insurance Manager, Director of Risk Management.
Supports the Corporate Insurance Manager in the placement of enterprise-wide insurance policies and the management of broker and insurance carrier relationships.
Performs other related duties as assigned within the risk management team.
Qualifications:
BA/BS Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management or related field.
One or more years of analyst-level work experience, with demonstrated ability in data interpretation and financial statement analysis. (Recent Bachelor's or MBA graduates with applicable internship experience in risk management or a closely related area may also be considered.)
Ability to understand complex processes at a detailed level.
Excellent systems administration skills. Knowledge of programming languages a plus, but not required.
Advanced Excel user skills.
Ability to handle multiple functions and deadlines.
A combination of excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with the ability to interact at various levels of the company is essential.
Ability to travel up to 10% across the US and Canada.
