Risk and Compliance Officer Associate
You will support the day-to-day implementation of the Risk and Compliance Framework in Rwanda. You will monitor AML, CTF, and CPF compliance; conduct transaction monitoring and investigations; prepare regulatory reports; maintain documentation and risk registers; support audits and risk assessments; and advise internal stakeholders on compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Support local compliance leadership in monitoring and maintaining AML, CFT, and CPF compliance.
- Prepare and file Suspicious Activity and Transaction Reports with the Rwanda Financial Intelligence Unit and the National Bank of Rwanda.
- Implement and monitor the AML, CFT, and CPF framework and internal controls.
- Conduct compliance checks, transaction monitoring reviews, and case investigations, escalating issues when needed.
- Maintain policies, procedures, and documentation aligned with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
- Monitor regulatory developments and support updates to internal processes and controls.
- Support responses to regulatory and law-enforcement requests by gathering information and preparing documentation.
- Compile periodic compliance reports and dashboards for local and global stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for audit readiness.
- Coordinate follow-ups on regulatory findings and action plans.
- Maintain the country risk register and track risk-mitigation actions.
- Support risk assessments, product reviews, and control testing.
- Monitor consumer-protection and data-protection controls and escalate identified issues.
- Participate in internal audits and independent testing exercises.
- Provide compliance support to internal teams on policies, processes, and regulatory expectations.
- Assist with compliance training and awareness initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Law, or a related discipline.
- 2–3 years of experience in risk, compliance, financial crime, or operations within a regulated financial institution, fintech, or payments company.
- Basic understanding of Rwandan regulatory requirements, including BNR and FIU requirements.
- Familiarity with AML and CFT principles and financial-crime controls.
- Working knowledge of AML, CFT, KYC, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and risk-management concepts.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, including Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and manage multiple tasks.
