Risk Data Engineer – Snowflake Migration
Summary
Contract data engineering role placed at a global investment bank in London (4 days/week in office), focused on migrating risk data from Raptor to Snowflake: building and optimising pipelines with Snowflake and dbt, validating and reconciling large datasets, and supporting Power BI reporting.
Risk Data Engineer - Snowflake Migration
Global Investment Bank
Location: London - 4 days per week in office
Contract: Initial contract with potential extension and opportunity to go permanent
We are supporting a leading global investment bank in the search for a Risk Data Engineer to join a significant data transformation programme in London. The role will focus on the migration from Raptor to Snowflake, working with modern data technologies to support the transformation of data pipelines, data processing and reporting capabilities within a complex banking environment.
This is a hands-on Data Engineering role, and we are particularly interested in candidates with strong experience across Snowflake and dbt, alongside a solid development background and experience handling large volumes of data.
Financial services and Risk domain experience would be beneficial, but the priority is finding technically strong engineers who can work with complex datasets and contribute to a large-scale data migration.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the migration of data and associated processes from Raptor to Snowflake.
- Develop, maintain and optimise data pipelines and transformation workflows using Snowflake and dbt.
- Work with large volumes of data, ensuring data quality, accuracy and reliability.
- Build and maintain scalable data models and transformation processes.
- Support data migration activities, including data mapping, validation and reconciliation.
- Analyse existing data structures and processing logic to support migration into the target Snowflake environment.
- Work closely with Data Engineers, Developers, Risk Reporting and Technology stakeholders to deliver data solutions.
- Investigate data issues, troubleshoot pipeline failures and optimise performance.
- Support the development and maintenance of reporting datasets and downstream data outputs.
- Work with Power BI to support reporting and data visualisation requirements.
- Contribute to technical documentation, testing and implementation activities throughout the migration.
Required Experience
- At least five years of hands-on software or data development experience.
- Strong practical experience with Snowflake.
- Strong experience with dbt, including data transformation and modelling.
- Proven experience working with large datasets and high volumes of data.
- Solid understanding of data engineering principles, data pipelines and data transformation.
- Experience developing, maintaining and optimising data processing solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, data and business stakeholders.
Highly Desirable
- Experience migrating data platforms from SQL Server to Snowflake.
- Strong Power BI skills, including experience supporting reporting and visualisation requirements.
- Experience with Streamlit.
- Previous experience within financial services or investment banking.
- Exposure to Risk Reporting, Risk data or broader Risk functions.
- Experience working on large-scale data migration or platform transformation programmes.
- Experience validating and reconciling data across source and target systems.
The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Risk Data Engineer to join a leading global investment bank and contribute to a significant migration from Raptor to Snowflake.
The successful candidate will work with modern data technologies, handling large volumes of data and supporting the development of scalable data transformation and reporting capabilities.
Candidates with strong Snowflake and dbt expertise, alongside experience working with complex datasets, will be particularly attractive for this role. Financial services and Risk experience will be advantageous, but are not essential for candidates with the right technical background.
The initial engagement is offered on a contract basis, with potential for extension and the possibility of a permanent opportunity further down the line.
