Description

We are looking for a Risk Manager II to join BAR | Verification Process Excellence (VPE) as a senior individual contributor focused on KYC/SVR Verification Risk. The role requires a strong risk background with experience identifying emerging risks and bad-actor patterns, developing and testing hypotheses, conducting complex risk analyses, and building scalable risk mechanisms.
The Risk Manager will apply this expertise to KYC/SVR, working backwards from risk signals and bad-actor outcomes to identify verification gaps and improvement opportunities. The role will also support GenAI/LLM-enabled risk mechanisms and partner across Risk, Product, Tech, Science, Operations, and Program teams to translate risk insights into measurable improvements.

Key job responsibilities
1. Build and evolve Verification Risk mechanisms to systematically identify, prioritize, investigate, and track emerging risks, bad-actor patterns, and improvement opportunities across KYC/SVR.
2. Conduct hypothesis-driven risk analysis and complex deep dives, using data, risk signals, bad-actor outcomes, and research to identify patterns, MOs, and systemic verification gaps.
3. Work backwards from downstream bad-actor and risk outcomes to determine how and why bad actors passed or could pass KYC/SVR controls, distinguishing isolated observations from systemic risks.
4. Develop risk frameworks and prioritization methodologies based on factors such as severity, recurrence, affected population, exposure, and prevention opportunity.
5. Translate validated risk findings into data-backed recommendations, including root cause, affected cohorts, impact/opportunity sizing, proposed improvements, and measurable success criteria.
6. Define and support GenAI/LLM-enabled risk use cases and requirements, including risk-signal analysis, pattern/MO identification, hypothesis generation, and deep-dive support; evaluate outputs and identify opportunities to improve or expand the mechanisms.
7. Establish strong analytical methodologies and quality standards for Verification Risk and provide functional guidance on complex risk analyses, hypothesis development, investigative approaches, and written risk narratives.
8. Partner with Verification Services Risk Mining, Risk, GPO, Operations, Product, Tech, Science, and Program teams to validate risk signals, share learnings, develop solutions, and drive identified verification improvements through measurable outcomes.
9. Develop clear risk narratives and leadership reporting covering emerging risks, identified verification gaps, opportunity sizing, proposed actions, implementation progress, blockers, and measured outcomes.

A day in the life
As a Risk Manager II within BAR | Verification Process Excellence (VPE), you will work on complex and emerging risk problems across KYC and Seller Verification (SVR). You will analyze risk signals and bad-actor outcomes, develop and test hypotheses, and conduct deep dives to understand how bad actors pass or could pass verification controls. You will build scalable risk mechanisms, translate findings into actionable improvements, and partner with Risk, Product, Tech, Science, Operations, and Program teams to drive measurable outcomes. You will also support GenAI/LLM-enabled risk use cases and help establish analytical methodologies and quality standards for Verification Risk.

About the team
Verification Process Excellence (VPE), within Business Assessment and Reinforcement (BAR), focuses on strengthening KYC and Seller Verification (SVR) by identifying systemic verification gaps and improvement opportunities. We use verification signals, seller experience insights, and learnings from downstream bad-actor and risk outcomes to understand where verification controls can be strengthened.
VPE works across Verification Risk, Seller Experience, and LLM/GenAI-enabled improvements, partnering with Risk, GPO, Operations, Product, Tech, Science, and Program teams to translate insights into measurable improvements. Our goal is to strengthen verification at the point of entry while reducing unnecessary friction for legitimate sellers.
