Responsibilities

Risk Manager – Radar System Replacement (RSR)

Work Location: Herndon, VA (1 day a week optional for telework)

Shape the Future of Air Traffic Management with Peraton

Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA’s Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton delivers innovative systems and services that keep our nation’s skies safe, connected, and moving forward.

We’re seeking a Risk Manager to support the Radar System Replacement (RSR) initiative, helping identify, assess, and mitigate risks across a critical FAA modernization effort. In this role, you’ll work across program teams, vendors, and FAA stakeholders to proactively manage challenges, strengthen program execution, and support successful delivery of mission-critical radar systems.

This is an opportunity to apply your expertise to complex technical and operational challenges while collaborating with leaders across aviation, engineering, cybersecurity, logistics, and program management.

At Peraton, you won’t just support the mission—you’ll help define it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Risk Management: Develop, maintain, and execute the RSR Program Risk Management Plan and supporting procedures in alignment with Peraton governance and FAA Program Management Office (PMO) requirements.

  • Manage Program Risks: Maintain the integrated risks, issues, and opportunities (RIO) register across vendors, sites, and program functions. Ensure risks are consistently evaluated, assigned, tracked, and addressed through effective mitigation and closure plans.

  • Drive Risk Assessments: Evaluate program changes, vendor recovery plans, production forecasts, installation schedules, staffing plans, and major milestones to identify potential cost, schedule, technical, safety, cybersecurity, and operational impacts.

  • Monitor Program Execution: Assess risks related to radar production, supplier capacity, equipment availability, shipments, site access, facility readiness, installation, testing, optimization, and system acceptance.

  • Integrate Schedule and Risk Planning: Partner with scheduling teams to align risk mitigation activities with the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), identify critical-path impacts, and evaluate downstream effects on site deployments and program milestones.

  • Assess Workforce Risks: Identify and evaluate staffing challenges involving recruitment, onboarding, qualifications, training capacity, travel requirements, and the availability of technical and field support personnel.

  • Facilitate Risk Reviews: Lead recurring Risk Review Boards and discussions with Peraton leadership, FAA PMO representatives, vendors, and functional teams. Document decisions, assign action owners, and track commitments through completion.

  • Coordinate Mitigation Strategies: Work with program management, engineering, cybersecurity, logistics, training, contracts, scheduling, and field leadership to develop and execute mitigation plans and plans of action and milestones (POA&Ms).

  • Identify Program Dependencies: Monitor vendor, site, and organizational dependencies to identify supply-chain constraints, cascading risks, and potential disruptions. Recommend contingency plans, alternate approaches, and recovery strategies.

  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Incorporate field reports, installation lessons learned, vendor performance, and readiness assessments into risk planning to prevent recurring issues and strengthen program execution.

  • Deliver Executive Reporting: Prepare risk briefings, scenario analyses, impact assessments, dashboards, and recommendations that clearly communicate program exposure, mitigation strategies, ownership, and decisions requiring leadership attention.

  • Monitor Emerging Risks: Establish risk trends and early-warning indicators to support proactive decision-making and integrate risk information into program dashboards and leadership reviews.

  • Coordinate Cybersecurity Risks: Work with designated technical authorities to assess cybersecurity and authorization-related risks and their potential impacts on installation, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness.

  • Support FAA Governance: Track risks requiring FAA or vendor decisions and elevate unresolved matters through established governance channels while respecting FAA-retained contractual, technical, safety, and acceptance authorities.

  • Identify Opportunities: Evaluate opportunities to improve installation efficiency, resource utilization, training, logistics, and overall program resilience while assessing associated implementation risks.

  • Support Program Modernization: Assess modernization initiatives, acquisition changes, regulatory requirements, and proposed changes to the program’s technical baseline.
