RN - Infection Preventionist
The Registered Nurse (RN)- Infection Preventionist at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care system (VAPAHCS) practices within the Infection Prevention and control (IP&C) section of the Office of Quality, Safety and Value (QSV). IP&C is a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary health care system-wide program designed to educate, monitor, prevent, and control infections and their adverse effects on patients, employees, trainees, volunteers, and visitors.

Functions as a key staff member for the interpretation, coordination, implementation and documentations of IP&C- related recommendations/standards issued by relevant professional organizations, i.e., The joint Commission (TJC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and others. Performs routine surveillance of healthcare-associated infections on a routine basis and outbreak investigations as warranted, utilizing knowledge and experience in microbiology, epidemiology, and infection prevention and control. Designs, participates in, and supports IP&C research activities, reviews recommended interventions prosed by research studies, and evaluates effectiveness of implementation.
