Position Summary
Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to join our inpatient care team on day shift.
The Med Surg RN provides observation and inpatient care for patients admitted to the Medical Surgical Unit. Responsibilities include assessing and treating patient conditions, administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient progress, educating patients and families, and collaborating with physicians and the healthcare team to ensure safe, high-quality care.
This role is ideal for nurses who enjoy delivering comprehensive patient care in a collaborative hospital environment.
Schedule Highlights

- Rotating weekends and holidays may be required
- 12-hour shifts typical in inpatient nursing environments
Key Responsibilities
Patient Assessment & Care
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing monitoring of clinical conditions
- Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans
- Provide observation and inpatient nursing care for medical and surgical patients
- Monitor patient response to treatments and adjust care as needed
Clinical Interventions
- Initiate treatments including IV therapy, oxygen therapy, catheter placement, splints, and other ordered procedures
- Administer medications safely using the seven rights of medication administration
- Operate infusion pumps and monitor IV therapies
Patient Education & Support
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions
- Provide guidance on recovery, wellness, and follow-up care
- Support patients and families through hospitalization and recovery processes
Care Coordination
- Collaborate with physicians, hospitalists, surgeons, and interdisciplinary care teams
- Ensure continuity of care and support safe patient transitions and discharge planning
- Communicate patient condition changes promptly to providers
Documentation & Quality Compliance
- Document assessments, treatments, and patient progress in the electronic health record
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
